Trades Assistant

Bundaberg, QLD | Casual with a genuine path to permanent

Aletek is an Australian-owned, family-run manufacturer building exhaust systems, thermal insulation blankets, diesel particulate filters and acoustic systems for the mining, oil & gas, marine and rail industries. Our gear goes onto tier-one equipment across Australia, Asia, the Americas and Africa. We're growing, and we need reliable people on the floor to grow with us.

What you'll be doing

- Working alongside our boilermakers, fabricators and sheet metal workers on the tools
- Preparing materials, setting up jobs, and keeping product moving through the shop
- Operating workshop plant and equipment — plate rollers, band saws, guillotine, press brake, drills, grinders and other handtools.
- Safe use of the forklift and overhead crane to move material and finished product
- Keeping the work area clean, safe and organised — a tidy shop is a fast shop
- Working to drawings and checking your own work against quality standards
- Driving continuous improvement — if you spot a better way, we want to hear it

What we're looking for

- Reliability above all — you show up, on time, ready to go
- Current forklift licence (HRW LF) — essential
- A willingness to learn — new processes, new equipment, new products; you ask questions, take feedback on the chin, and keep getting better at the job

- A continuous improvement mindset — you don't accept "that's how we've always done it," you look for the better way and you speak up when you find it
- Confidence operating large plant and machinery safely
- Strong safety awareness: you look after yourself and the bloke next to you
- A team-first attitude — pick up the phone, ask the question, get it sorted
- Reliable transport
- Workshop, manufacturing or fabrication experience highly regarded

How we work

Quality here isn't a gate at the end of the line — it's how we build. Everyone on the floor is expected to bring ideas forward, get involved when we're chasing a root cause, and help make the next job easier than the last.

What's in it for you

- An in-house café — free coffee and food, on us
- A workplace with genuine atmosphere: a tight-knit crew, a bit of banter, and leaders who are on the floor, not hiding behind email
- Casual to start, with a clear pathway to permanent for the right people
- Hands-on training across our full range of workshop plant and machinery — real, transferable skills
- Cross-skilling and trade pathways for people who show they want it
- Varied work — no two jobs the same, custom builds for major resource companies
- Stable, ongoing work with a contemporary facility and well-maintained equipment
- Live and work in Bundaberg — short commute, coast on your doorstep, no big-city grind

Our values

Fearless. Motivated. Optimistic. Humble. Loyal.

Our promise

Assurance through Responsiveness, Innovation and Quality; no compromise.
