Employment Lawyer | Legal Counsel / Senior Legal Counsel

Brisbane | Major ASX-listed business | Full-time or part-time

A genuine opportunity to partner with the business

We are working with a leading ASX-listed organisation to recruit an experienced employment lawyer to join its established in‑house legal team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an employment lawyer looking to make their first move in‑house, or an existing in‑house lawyer seeking a role where they can develop solid relationships across the business and have a real impact.

Working closely with the People & Culture team, you'll be a trusted legal adviser and genuine business partner, providing practical, commercially focused advice across a broad range of employee relations matters.

Importantly, this isn't a role where you'll simply wait for legal questions to come your way. We're looking for someone who enjoys engaging proactively with stakeholders, understanding their challenges and helping them navigate employment issues before they become problems.

The chance

Reporting to a senior lawyer within a supportive and well‑established legal team, your work will include:

- Advising on employment contracts, policies, performance management, disciplinary matters, investigations and workplace disputes.
- Providing advice on wage compliance, employment legislation and regulatory developments.
- Partnering closely with People & Culture on day‑to‑day employment matters, risk management and practical solutions.
- Supporting workplace change, organisational restructuring and other strategic projects.

- Building strong relationships with stakeholders across the business and contributing to broader legal matters where appropriate.

The role can be structured at either Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel level , depending on your experience.

About you

We're interested in speaking with employment lawyers who have at least 5 years' relevant employment law experience , ideally more, gained in private practice, in‑house or a combination of both.

You’ll bring:

- Strong employment law expertise, particularly across employee relations and advisory matters.
- Sound judgement and the ability to provide clear, practical and commercially sensible advice.
- A proactive, approachable style and a genuine interest in understanding the business.
- The confidence to build relationships and influence stakeholders at different levels.
- An adaptable, collaborative approach and a willingness to contribute beyond your immediate legal portfolio.

Experience working closely with People & Culture teams will be highly regarded, but we're equally interested in private practice lawyers with the right approach and motivation to transition in‑house.

Flexibility and benefits

One of the attractions of this opportunity is the genuine flexibility on offer.

The organisation is open to full‑time or part‑time arrangements, including school‑friendly hours and other flexible working structures, alongside hybrid working.

You’ll also enjoy a competitive remuneration package, bonus opportunities, additional benefits and the support of an established legal team within a substantial national business.

For a lawyer who enjoys employment law but wants to get closer to the commercial and people decisions behind the advice, this is a particularly appealing opportunity.
