Business Development Manager – Marketing Consultancy
Location: Sydney | Remote / On the Road
Role: Full-Time
Career Path: BDM → Sales Leadership
Salary: $92,500 + super + comms
About Our Client
Our client is one of Australia’s leading marketing consultancies for small businesses. They’ve been operating successfully for 18 years, helping Australian business owners grow through strategic marketing plans, advice and ongoing consultancy.
For most of that journey, the business has been heavily founder‑led. It is a well‑oiled machine. The systems are established. The service works. The reputation is strong. The founder knows exactly how to sell the offering and has spent nearly two decades refining what works. Now, he’s ready to start handing over the sales function.
That creates a huge opportunity for an ambitious, hungry and driven Business Development Manager who wants far more than just their next sales job.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Win new small‑business clients using a proven consultative sales methodology
- Manage and convert inbound sales opportunities
- Proactively generate new business through outbound activity
- Leverage your own network and develop relationships within the small‑business community
- Attend networking events and other environments where business owners congregate
- Conduct consultative conversations, asking intelligent questions to understand each client’s business and challenges
- Qualify opportunities carefully to ensure there’s a genuine fit
- Work directly with the founder to continually improve your sales capability
- Maintain disciplined activity, pipeline management and reporting
- Work closely with the GM of Client Delivery to ensure a seamless transition from sale to delivery
- Over time, help build, mentor and lead the future sales team
Who We’re Looking For
- Ambitious, driven and highly accountable
- A proven salesperson or business developer
- Comfortable generating your own opportunities rather than relying purely on inbound leads
- An excellent communicator who can connect with people from all walks of life
- Commercially minded and naturally curious about how businesses operate
- Confident speaking with small‑business owners and senior decision‑makers
- Consultative rather than transactional in your sales approach
- Comfortable being coached and challenged
- Autonomous and proactive – you don’t need someone telling you what to do every hour
- Someone who wants to eventually lead people, not just hit an individual target
Why This Opportunity Is Different
You aren’t walking into a startup trying to figure out whether the model works. You’re joining an 18‑year‑old business with a proven offering, established processes and a founder who has successfully driven its sales for nearly two decades. You’ll effectively be learning the playbook directly from the person who built it. Perform, and this role can evolve from Business Development Manager → Sales Leader → building and managing your own team.
Benefits
- Market-competitive salary of $92,500 + super + commissions
- Potentially uncapped commission structure
- Mentorship and autonomy over your own sales function
- Opportunity to grow into a leadership role
Equal Opportunities
We welcome applications from all backgrounds and identities. We are committed to equal opportunity for all qualified persons and will not discriminate against any applicant for employment because of race, colour, religion, marital status, national origin, gender, age, disability, veteran status, or any other status protected by law.
