Ethical Farmers – Dungog, NSW
Regenerative Landscape Gardener & Market Gardener
We are looking for an experienced, practical Landscape Gardener & Market Gardener to take responsibility for the gardens, productive growing areas and landscaping around our family home and regenerative farm near Dungog.
We are looking for more than someone who can maintain gardens. We want someone who understands, or has a strong interest in, permaculture, regenerative agriculture, organic farming, market gardening and ecological landscape management.
This is a hands-on role with considerable variety and the opportunity to help develop the property over the long term.
The role
The position will include:
- Maintaining and improving established gardens around the house and farm
- Managing and developing our market garden and food-growing areas
- Planning seasonal vegetable and herb production
- Seed raising, propagation, planting and harvesting
- Composting and natural fertility management
- Building healthy, biologically active soils
- Planning and establishing new garden areas
- Tree planting and establishment , including native, shade, screening, fruit and productive trees
- Ongoing care of newly planted trees
- Productive and perennial planting
- Plant selection and planting design
- Pruning and maintaining trees and shrubs
- Mulching and ground-cover management
- Organic weed and pest management
- Irrigation installation, maintenance and management
- Water-efficient growing and landscape practices
- Lawn and general grounds maintenance around the house
- Small landscaping and property-improvement projects
- Revegetation and biodiversity projects around the farm
You don't need to be an expert in every area. A solid practical background combined with a genuine interest in regenerative and organic growing systems is important.
Our approach
Our farm has a strong focus on soil health, biodiversity,
regenerative agriculture and producing high-quality food.
We would particularly like someone with knowledge or experience in:
- Permaculture
- Regenerative agriculture
- Organic farming and gardening
- Market gardening
- Vegetable and herb production
- Seed raising and propagation
- Composting and natural fertility
- Soil biology and soil health
- Tree planting and establishment
- Fruit trees and productive perennial systems
- Water management and irrigation
- Companion and diverse planting
- Revegetation and biodiversity
About you
Ideally, you will have practical experience in horticulture, landscaping, market gardening, organic farming, permaculture or a related field.
You should be comfortable working independently, operating gardening and landscaping equipment and taking responsibility for the areas you manage.
We want someone who can look at the garden or growing area, identify what needs doing and get on with it, rather than needing a daily list of individual jobs.
Formal qualifications are welcome, but practical ability, knowledge, initiative and attitude are more important to us.
About us
Ethical Farmers is a regenerative farming business near Dungog producing grass-fed beef and pasture-raised chicken.
The role covers our family house gardens, market garden and productive growing areas, as well as selected landscaping, tree planting and revegetation projects throughout the farm.
We are continually developing the property and want to integrate food production, productive trees, beautiful gardens, biodiversity and regenerative farming principles into the landscape.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to take real ownership of these areas and help us develop them over many years.
Full-time preferred, although flexible arrangements may be considered for the right person.
Remuneration will depend on experience and capability.
Only Australian residents and strong English speaking candidates
