Studying law and wanting to get your boots on the ground in a legal practice with a high energy start-up vibe?

At GopherWood Lawyers, you’ll work alongside our founding partner and the team commercial disputes. You’ll get eyes on big firm legal strategy with boutique firm intelligence. Because you’re not a cog in a big wheel you’ll learn quick and be exposed to matters in a way that accelerates knowledge. Your contribution will be visible, and there’ll be plenty to learn.

At GopherWood we’re growing and leaning into our boutique status. That means having high touch client relationships, providing exceptional legal rigour, and the type of commercial judgement clients need which can get lost in larger firms. Our work spans commercial litigation, regulatory investigations, insurance disputes, debt recovery and insolvency.

Our founder has been nominated for both Partner of the Year and Litigator of the Year. As the firm grows, we’re looking for an ambitious and efficient Paralegal to help our lawyers stay organised and deliver for clients.

The opportunity

You’ll play an important role in the daily running of the practice, supporting the founder and lawyers with documents, files, scheduling and matter administration.

Alongside that practical support, you’ll gain exposure to legal research, court processes,



client communications and the preparation that goes into resolving disputes.

We’re offering full-time work or 4 days per week, with flexibility around agreed study commitments and a mix of office and home working. Time together in our Sydney CBD office will be an important part of your learning.

What you’ll be doing

- Maintaining orderly electronic files, correspondence and matter records.

- Formatting, proofreading and compiling legal documents, briefs and court bundles.

- Assisting with court filing and tracking key dates under lawyer supervision.

- Coordinating diaries, meetings, appointments and counsel conferences.

- Helping manage incoming enquiries and routine follow-up, referring legal questions to the appropriate lawyer.

- Undertaking legal research and preparing chronologies or document summaries under supervision.

- Helping improve the everyday systems that keep a growing practice running smoothly.

- Supporting the firm’s marketing activities, including content creation and business development.

What you’ll bring

You may be completing your law degree and looking for substantial, consistent work alongside your studies. We also welcome applications from experienced paralegals.

You’ll bring:

- Strong organisation, attention to detail and clear written communication.

- The confidence to ask questions and flag competing deadlines.

- A practical approach and willingness to contribute across legal support and administration.

- Sound discretion when handling confidential information.

- Efficiency and speed with legal office tech stacks.

- Availability to work four or five days per week.

Previous experience in a legal office, professional services or administration would be helpful.
