Senior IT Database Designer - AWS PostgreSQL

An exciting prospect exists for an experienced IT Database Designer to join a high-performing technology team delivering and supporting enterprise-scale cloud platforms.
Working within an Agile delivery environment, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, optimising and supporting PostgreSQL database solutions hosted in AWS. You'll collaborate closely with Architecture, Development and DevOps teams to ensure secure, scalable and high-performing database services that support critical business applications.
This role is ideal for a database professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, driving continuous improvement and contributing to cloud-native solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and implement PostgreSQL database schemas, indexes and database structures.
- Develop and optimise SQL queries, functions, procedures and triggers.
- Monitor and tune database performance to ensure reliability and scalability.
- Implement and maintain backup, recovery and disaster recovery solutions.
- Support database deployments, upgrades and migration activities.
- Collaborate with software engineering teams to integrate database solutions with applications, APIs and microservices.
- Work alongside DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code practices.




- Conduct technical reviews and promote database development best practices.
- Provide mentoring, coaching and technical guidance to team members.
- Investigate emerging technologies and identify opportunities for platform improvement.

Key Skills required

- Strong commercial experience with AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL .
- Expertise in PostgreSQL database design, administration and performance tuning.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale cloud environments.
- Knowledge of database security, availability, resilience and recovery strategies.
- Experience working within Agile delivery frameworks.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and deliver practical solutions.
- Experience contributing to automation, DevOps and modern engineering practices.

Highly Regarded

- AWS cloud certifications.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools.
- Database migration and modernisation experience.
