About Salute for Service

Salute for Service is a Queensland-based, Veteran-focused not-for-profit that helps current and former Australian Defence Force members and their families thrive after service.

Our Combat to Career program helps Veterans turn their skills and experience into meaningful civilian employment. It combines one-on-one coaching, skills recognition, CV support and direct connections with employers.

About the role

We're looking for a registered graduate Occupational Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team and build their career while supporting people who've served.

With clinical supervision, mentoring and practical guidance, you'll work directly with Veterans and their family members to identify their strengths, understand barriers to employment and set meaningful career goals. You'll also help them develop the practical tools to find and keep work that matters to them.

This is a hands‑on, client-facing role across the programs within Combat to Career. You'll also assist with assessments and applications for aids and appliances and contribute to other program activities, with support appropriate to your experience and developing skills.

You’ll take an active role in client care from the outset,

with your caseload and responsibilities developing as your confidence and competence grow.

What you'll be doing

- Providing vocational support to Veterans and their families, from assessment and goal-setting through to sustainable employment, with guidance from experienced colleagues.
- Delivering one-on-one career coaching and ongoing support.
- Helping clients translate military skills and experience into language civilian employers understand.
- Supporting CV development, job applications and interview preparation.
- Helping clients identify and address barriers to participation in work and everyday activities.
- Supporting delivery of group programs and employer events under Combat to Career.
- Assisting with assessments and applications for aids and appliances, with appropriate clinical supervision and within your scope of practice.
- Working with colleagues across disciplines to deliver coordinated support.
- Keeping accurate client notes and contributing to program reporting.
- Participating in supervision, case discussions and career development, and seeking guidance when needed.

About you

- A degree in Occupational Therapy with current, unrestricted AHPRA registration.
- A recent graduate or early‑career Occupational Therapist interested in vocational rehabilitation, employment and supporting Veterans.

- Able to build rapport with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Organised and proactive, with a willingness to develop your caseload management skills.
- Open to feedback, keen to learn and comfortable asking questions.
- Committed to safe, person‑centred practice and recognising when additional support is needed.
- A current driver's licence.

Previous employment in vocational rehabilitation or Veteran services is not essential. Relevant university placements, transferable skills and a willingness to learn are valued.

Highly regarded

- Placement, work or volunteer experience in vocational rehabilitation, return to work, mental health or employment services.
- Experience working with Veterans, DVA or Defence families.
- An understanding of the military‑to‑civilian transition.
- Exposure to assistive technology, aids and appliances, or funding applications.
- Lived experience of Defence service or as a Defence family member.

Why join us

- Meaningful work supporting Veterans and their families.
- Clinical supervision, mentoring and access to guidance as you develop your practice.
- A multidisciplinary team that values collaboration and shared learning.
- A supported caseload that develops with your skills and confidence.
- Salary packaging of up to $15,900 for eligible everyday living expenses, plus a further $2,650 for eligible meal entertainment and holiday accommodation, subject to applicable conditions.
- Variety across coaching, mentoring and clinical work.
- Hybrid working arrangements.
- Professional development support.
