Branch Manager, Electrical Engineering Consultancy - QLD

Reporting to our client's Managing Director, this position is a new office start-up for a well established Electrical Engineering consultancy.

Scope To lead, manage and coordinate the growth activities and operational resources of the multi-disciplined electrical engineering consultancy business which offers electrical engineering design, testing, supervisory and project management services for clients in the mining, minerals processing, oil and gas and utilities sectors.

Accountabilities

- Overall branch productivity, profitability and project delivery.
- Client relationship management
- Overall Business Management and Business Development
- Major project management
- Engineering team establishment and building.
- Advanced Engineering Design - Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls System
- Ultimately responsible for quality and sign-off of all designs produced by the engineering resources within the company
- Advanced and specialised System analysis and modelling, design calculations, computer simulations
- Expert witness and specialised consultation services
- Advisory services for plant operation, diagnosis, maintenance and repair of electrical plant.
- Project feasibility studies and Project Budget / Cost estimation
- Engineering resource professional development and training
- Engineering resource selection and assessments

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Suitable candidate will have a level of Technical Authority across all disciplines (HV, LV & Controls), innovation and specialist sign-off.

It is expected they will have exposure to the following;

Electrical Systems including;

1. Power generation projects of various fuel types, configurations, ratings
2. Transmission and distribution systems – from low voltage up to 500kV and HVDC
3. Substations – all voltages, configurations and capacity
4. Large mineral processing plants, Large industrial load complexes
5. Resource projects in remote areas – globally
6.



Major electrical plant selection and specifications – Transformers, Switchgear, Cables, Motors, etc.
7. Protection systems, device settings, coordination & fault studies
8. Specialised services – e.g. expert witness duties, incident investigations, major breakdown of electrical plant / failure investigations, etc.

Control Systems / Automation

1. Overall control system architecture design
2. Equipment selection – PLC, DCS, SCADA platforms and standards
3. Control Philosophies, Functional Descriptions, system architecture, and control system and automation strategies.

Mining and Mineral processing Electrical Project Management
1. Feasibility studies – up to bankable level
2. Lead a large group of engineering resources to produce designs and project deliverables
3. Report on project costs, schedule, scope and quality
4. Client meetings and interfaces, including presentations, project marketing
5. OH&S; accountability for resources
6. Technical compliance and sign-offs

A seasoned business leader successful candidates will have strong commercial track record and proven business acumen. He or She will be comfortable troubleshooting with a high level of adaptability and familiar with problem solving. They will be highly motivated and confident in growing a buisness. Well connected in the QLD mining and mineral processing industry, the successful candidate will have a solid client base and excel at developing clients and business.

Tasked with developing an engineering team, the suitable candidate will be comfortable with growing and leading a team.

Qualifications

- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering.
- Advanced qualification – (MBA, Master of Engineering etc.) preferred.
- CPEng membership of Engineers Australia.
- Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ)
