Your opportunity

At Southern Cross University, financial insights help shape decisions, improve performance and support our strategic direction. We're looking for a Business Analyst, Finance who combines strong accounting fundamentals with analytical thinking and a talent for turning complex information into clear, practical advice.

This is a dual-focused role, bringing together financial reporting and business intelligence with hands-on finance business partnering. You'll help strengthen reporting, develop financial models and uncover insights across financial and operational data, while partnering with work units to support budgeting, forecasting and financial performance.

Working within our Financial Performance and Analytics team, you'll contribute to the evolution of our reporting and data capabilities, including opportunities to use automation and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and insight. As the University continues to modernise its data environment, you'll have the opportunity to contribute ideas, explore better ways of working and help translate data into meaningful business outcomes.

You will make an impact by:

- Delivering financial reporting, analysis and insights to support University decisions
- Developing financial models, performance reporting and business intelligence solutions
- Partnering with work units on budgets, forecasts and financial performance
- Translating complex financial and operational data into clear, practical advice
- Identifying opportunities to improve reporting,

processes and analytical capabilities

What You Will Bring You'll bring strong accounting and financial management foundations, alongside the curiosity and problem-solving mindset to explore what the data is telling us and how it can be used to improve business performance. You're comfortable working with financial information, developing analysis and advising stakeholders, and can explain complex concepts in a way that makes sense to people without a finance background. You'll enjoy working collaboratively across different teams, building trusted relationships and taking the initiative to investigate issues, challenge assumptions and recommend practical solutions. While experience with business intelligence platforms and modern data environments will be valuable, we're equally interested in someone with strong finance capability who is keen to develop their analytical toolkit and contribute to evolving ways of working.

To succeed in this role, you will also need:

- A relevant finance or accounting qualification, with CPA/CA membership or progress towards it highly regarded
- Substantial accounting experience, including financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting
- Strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly
- Experience partnering with stakeholders to improve financial performance and support decisions
- Substantial experience with financial systems and high level Excel capabilities, with a previous demonstrated interest in BI reporting, data and process improvement

Experience with business intelligence tools (particularly Tableau), data visualization, automation or Microsoft Fabric will be an advantage, but you don’t need to be an expert in every platform. We’re open to candidates who bring strong financial and systems foundations and a willingness to learn.
