About the College
Stromlo Forest Anglican College is Canberra’s newest independent Anglican school and the first new Anglican school in the ACT in more than twenty years. We opened in 2026 and are growing quickly. Years 3 to 8 open in 2027, and Years 9 and 10 follow in 2028, on the way to a full Early Learning to Year 12 College.
Our purpose-built campus sits at the foot of Stromlo Forest. We are a diverse, globally minded community, and more than half of our families have at least one parent born overseas.
We educate children for Love and Courage. We want every child to thrive, to know they belong and to know that they matter. Our culture asks children and adults alike to: See again. Listen deeply. Act kindly.
The Role
We are looking for a passionate and skilled Chinese Teacher to join us from the start of the 2027 school year. At Stromlo Forest Anglican, Languages is taught all year to every student, every year. That makes this role central to the learning of every child.
Because we are a new school, you won’t just step into a program. You’ll help build one. You’ll shape how Chinese is taught and celebrated and help create traditions and ways of working that will last for years.
In this role, you will:
- Design and teach engaging, well-sequenced programs aligned with the Australian Curriculum: Languages (Chinese)
- Build students’ confidence in listening, speaking, reading and writing, including Pinyin, characters and tones
- Balance explicit teaching with inquiry, dialogue, play and real-world use of the language
- Help students understand Chinese-speaking cultures and connect them with their own identity and experience
- Get to know each learner well and adjust your teaching so every student is both challenged and supported
- Use diagnostic, formative and summative assessment to guide next steps and report clearly to families
- Create a warm classroom culture where thinking is visible, kindness is the norm and every student belongs
- Work with colleagues, specialist teachers and the Diverse Learning Team on planning, moderation and professional learning
- Contribute to College life, including Chapel, assemblies, House events, camps, outdoor learning and co-curricular programs (for example, Lunar New Year celebrations or a languages club)
About You
You love teaching, you respect children deeply and you’re excited by the chance to help shape a new school. You will bring:
- An appropriate tertiary teaching qualification, with a specialisation or strong background in Chinese
- High-level fluency in Chinese and strong knowledge of how languages are learned
- Knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and evidence-informed teaching practice
- The ability to design high-quality, engaging learning for students with diverse strengths and needs
- An understanding of inquiry and concept-based approaches to learning
- Strong relationship-building skills with students, families and colleagues
- A collaborative, reflective approach and curiosity about educational research
- Flexibility, initiative and optimism suited to a new and growing school
- Support for the College’s Anglican ethos and the values of Love and Courage
Essential Requirements
- Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI)
- Current ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration
- Current First Aid and child safety training, or willingness to obtain them
Why Join Us?
- Be part of a founding team and help shape the culture of a new K–12 College
- Build a Chinese language program from the beginning in a diverse, globally minded community
- Teach in a up-to-date, sustainable campus beside Stromlo Forest, with outdoor learning as a priority
- A collaborative, professional culture where teachers are valued as thinkers, not just people who deliver programs
- Remuneration under the Independent Schools (Teachers) Cooperative Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2025
