We have a recent contract role available for a Deputy Harbour Master. This is an initial 8 month role, until June 2027, starting asap. The role is based across two sites - Fremantle and Kwinana, and operates Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. A competitive hourly rate is offered.

You'll be responsible for

Support the Harbour Master in the safe and efficient management of port marine operations.

Lead and manage the Vessel Traffic Services and Small Craft Services teams.

Oversee commercial vessel movements, scheduling, berth allocation and vessel vetting.

Manage marine safety, emergency preparedness, incident response and investigations

Support hydrographic, meteorological, dredging and navigation activities.

Ensure compliance with relevant marine, security and regulatory requirements.

Build effective relationships with pilots, service providers, government agencies and port stakeholders.

Drive continuous improvement and innovation across marine operations.

Essential Skills & Attributes:

Master Class 1 (One) or equivalent marine qualification.

Minimum 1 year experience at Senior Officer rank aboard internationally trading merchant vessels.

Minimum 2 years' experience in a shore-based marine operational management role or similar.

Current Australian C/CA Class Driver's Licence.





Valid Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC), or ability to obtain.

Knowledge of the WA Port Authorities Act and relevant shipping regulations.

Experience in vessel vetting, marine incident investigation and emergency management.

Strong leadership, analytical, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.

Availability to work outside normal business hours when operationally required
