Advertised (Gazettal date): 13 October 2026

Contact Officer: Clare Winkworth on [email protected] or (02) 6205 1516

Details: The Digital Policy team sits at the centre of some of the ACT Government's most significant technology, digital and reform initiatives. We help shape how government plans, governs and invests in technology, providing strategic advice to senior executives and supporting key whole-of-government decision-making processes. Our work spans technology investment and governance, digital strategy, Cabinet and ministerial matters, cross-government reform, and emerging policy challenges that influence the future direction of government services.

As a Director, Digital Policy, you will play a leading role in shaping this work. You will work closely with senior executives across Digital Canberra and government to develop strategic advice, guide reform initiatives and influence decision-making on complex and high-profile issues. Over the coming months, the team will be progressing a range of projects, and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to help shape priorities and lead work aligned to their skills and experience.

This role offers flexibility, visibility and the opportunity to make a genuine impact on how the ACT Government manages and delivers technology-enabled change.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop clear, persuasive and practical advice for ministers, senior executives and other decision-makers.
- The ability to analyse complex issues, exercise sound judgement and provide strategic advice that supports informed decision-making and delivers practical outcomes.

- Experience building productive relationships and working collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, policy teams, delivery areas and governance forums.
- Experience leading or contributing to policy, strategy, governance, reform or organisational improvement initiatives in a government or similarly complex workplace.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to lead work across multiple priorities, deliver high-quality outcomes, and support others in a fast-paced environment.
- A commitment to collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement, including an interest in finding new ways to improve how government communicates, governs and delivers services.

Experience in areas such as Cabinet processes, strategic policy development, governance and committee leadership, stakeholder engagement, government writing, organisational reform or technology-enabled transformation will be highly regarded. We welcome applicants from a range of professional backgrounds and recognise that no candidate is likely to bring experience across every aspect of the role. The successful applicant must be an Australian citizen and possess or be able to acquire and maintain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) security clearance at the baseline level.

Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.

How to Apply: Please review the Position Description and submit the following:

- A pitch of no more than two pages outlining your interest in the role and what you would bring to the Digital Policy team. We are interested in understanding your strengths, experience and perspective, and how these could contribute to the team's work. You do not need to address every capability or criterion individually. Instead, we encourage you to highlight the areas where you have the most relevant experience and demonstrate your ability to succeed in a collaborative, fast-paced policy environment.
- A current curriculum vitae, including contact details for two referees.

Interested applicants are encouraged to contact the Contact Officer to discuss the role and the opportunities available within the team. Applications should be submitted .

Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.

Where an offer of employment is for a fixed-term period, any related temporary contracts within the Territory will be issued in compliance with the requirements and applicable exceptions outlined in the Fair Work Act.

The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
