About the role

SMART Engineering (QLD) Pty Ltd is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic person to start an apprenticeship as an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter joining our team in Rocklea, QLD. This is a full-time apprenticeship position that offers an excellent foundation for a rewarding career in mechanical fitting. You will work alongside experienced professionals, developing practical skills and theoretical knowledge in a hands-on environment.

This role is integral to our operations, as apprentices contribute to the precision work that underpins our service delivery whilst gaining valuable industry experience.

Key responsibilities

As an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter, your primary duties will include:

- Assisting experienced fitters in the assembly, installation and maintenance of mechanical equipment and hydraulic cylinders

- Learning to use hand tools, power tools and precision measuring instruments safely and accurately

- Supporting the fabrication and fitting of components according to technical drawings and specifications

- Participating in equipment troubleshooting and repair work under supervision

- Maintaining a clean and organised work environment, adhering to health and safety protocols

- Attending formal apprenticeship training courses and workplace-based learning sessions

- Following company procedures and best practices to ensure quality workmanship

- Developing knowledge of machinery operation, maintenance schedules and preventative care

What we're looking for To succeed in this apprenticeship, you should possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:





- A strong desire to learn practical engineering and mechanical fitting skills with a commitment to completing a recognised apprenticeship programme

- GCSE Mathematics and English (Grade 4 or equivalent) or demonstrated numeracy and literacy capabilities

- Attention to detail and the ability to work to precise tolerances and technical specifications

- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination suitable for mechanical work
- A methodical and safety-conscious approach to work, with willingness to adhere to health and safety regulations

- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

- Reliability, punctuality and a professional attitude towards work

- Physical fitness, as the role involves standing for extended periods and lifting materials
- A valid Australian driver's licence.

- Previous experience in a trade or technical environment would be advantageous but is not essential
