Narre Warren
### Who we are?
Transit is a grass‑roots community food‑relief organisation that provides a community three‑course sit‑down lunch and dinner, as well as free groceries, fresh produce, frozen meals and essential support to individuals and families experiencing hardship. We operate from Narre Warren, with additional off‑site sorting facilities in Narre Warren South. Transit is powered by volunteers and supported by local businesses, schools and community groups, all of whom play a significant role in supporting families and individuals doing it tough in the local community
### About the Role
This role is all about showing up for your community in a practical, meaningful way. As a Food Relief Distribution Volunteer, you will be interacting with guests, helping make sure good food gets sorted and into the hands of people who need it. It’s hands‑on, it’s social and it genuinely makes a difference.
### What You’ll Be Doing
- Greeting guests while serving at a food station during our service times, offering friendly interaction and simple guidance as they select their items.
- Keeping the pantry space welcoming, clean and easy to navigate while distributing food to the community.
- Washing crates and flattening cardboard when required.
- Following basic food safety and hygiene practices.
- Working alongside a supportive team of staff and volunteers.
### Who This Suits
You don’t need experience — just a willingness to help and a kind, steady presence. If you’re someone who likes to stay organised, enjoys being part of a team you’ll fit right in. Most importantly, you bring respect, compassion and a non‑judgmental attitude to everyone who walks through our doors.
### What You’ll Get Out of It
- The chance to make a real, immediate impact in your local community
- A warm, supportive volunteer team
- Recent skills and confidence in community services and food relief
- Hours can be signed off if you need them
- That quiet, satisfying feeling of knowing you’ve helped someone’s day feel a little lighter
