Sydney

We’re looking for a Growth Marketing Manager (Marketplace) to own how Respondent finds its participants. You’d be the first to run paid ads at Respondent. You'll have access to a real budget and every channel to play with; this role is for you if you have high agency and want to be accountable for real outcomes.

? About Respondent

Respondent is building the infrastructure that powers participant recruiting for the research industry. Our mission is straightforward but ambitious: to make it effortless for researchers to find high-quality human participants — whether they’re testing a product, exploring a market, or validating an idea.

From our founder’s first recruits on a NYC subway to a global panel of 4 million participants across 150+ countries, we now support research for companies like Microsoft, Dropbox, and P&G;. Our panel is one of the most diverse and responsive in the industry.

We’re a 35-person team across Sydney, Manila, and the US. We’re intentional about collaborating in person — serendipitous hallway conversations, whiteboarding sessions, and quick alignment cycles help us move faster and build something great together.

We’ve gone from 0 to 1, recently reaching profitability and intending to stay so. We’re scaling with intention and reinvesting in the business to grow our platform, panel, and team. Joining at this stage means your work will have a direct impact as we take Respondent from 1 to 10.

? The role

You’ll report to our Fulfilment Lead and own every external channel we use to bring participants onto the platform. Studies land every day, and each one needs a different kind of person — Japanese IT decision-makers one week, Australian farm owners the next. When we’re short, you’re the one who goes and finds them.

That means building the campaign, not briefing it out. You’ll write the copy, make the creative, pick the channel, launch it, and read the numbers back. Claude handles a lot of the generation and there’s a designer in-house for the heavier lifts, but the angle and the call on whether it worked are yours.

Expect 10 to 20 campaigns live at once and an annual budget in the hundreds of thousands. Nobody is going to approve your reallocations line by line.

Worth saying plainly, because the title is broader than the brief: this is a campaign role first.

You’ll work with our designers to build landing pages needed for your campaigns, but lifecycle email and referral sit with other people for now, and you’re measured on cost per acquisition and qualified participants rather than what happens once someone is on the platform. If you’re strong, that boundary moves — but it moves after the paid engine works, not before.

? Your impact

- Build the channel mix: Meta is where most of this starts, with LinkedIn, Reddit, Google and anything else you can prove out. You decide what gets tested, what gets scaled, and what gets switched off.
- Make the work: Copy, static, short video, a different angle for every persona. If a segment is big enough to justify UGC, you go and find the creators.
- Own the money: Moving budget toward what’s working, pulling it out of what isn’t, and spotting creative fatigue before the numbers make it obvious.
- Localise quickly: New countries, new demographics, new rules about what you’re allowed to say. You’ll pivot in days rather than quarters.
- Do the unscalable part: Some segments are forty people worldwide and the only way in is a phone call to a CEO. We’d rather you made the call than reported that the channel underperformed.
- Turn wins into playbooks: Write down what worked so the fifth hard segment takes a day instead of a week.
- Call out what’s blocking you: If a signup flow is losing us conversions on ad traffic, you make that case to the people who own it.

✨ What you bring

- Meta expert: You’ve run and optimised Meta campaigns with a budget you controlled. You can explain how you structure campaigns, graduate winners to scale, and manage budgets. LinkedIn and Reddit are a bonus — we don’t expect every channel.
- Creative you made yourself: You can find the hook for a persona you’ve never marketed to before and can build relevant creative at volume.
- AI in your workflow: You already use Claude or other LLMs, plus image and video tools, to write and test creative at volume, and you know where they fall short.
- Budget judgement:

You’ve had the authority to move money around and the discipline to pull it when the numbers said to.
- Around three years in: Used to volume, and ready to own something rather than execute someone else’s brief.
- Comfortable without direction: The paid roadmap is yours to build and defend.
- Straight about results: You’ll tell us a campaign isn’t working before we work it out ourselves.
- Hustle: Some weeks the answer isn’t an ad, and you’ll need to find the other way in.
- Proven track record (Bonus): Having example campaigns that you’ve run or side projects you’ve built in the past is a strong plus.

? Why you’ll love it here

- Real budget from week one: Hundreds of thousands a year, forecast to grow - real responsibility of outcomes from day 1
- The full economics: We know what a participant is worth, how many sessions they go on to complete, and how long they take to pay back. Most performance marketers never see that loop close.
- You’re the expert in the room: You have full ownership over all external supply acquisition - your decisions are trusted. You bring strong reasoning that can bring the team on the journey in a clear way.
- Scope you can earn: Prove the engine works and the wider growth surface — landing pages (working with designers), lifecycle, referral — opens up.
- Stable but moving: A profitable business with startup pace and no runway anxiety.
- A small team across three continents: Sydney, Manila and the US

?️ How we hire

Four conversations, we try to get this done ASAP.

1. Intro call, 30 minutes. Your campaign history, the budgets you’ve actually controlled, and what you want next.
2. Hiring manager and marketing lead, 60 minutes. The supply problem in detail, and how you’d go at it.
3. Working session, in our office. You get a brief and time to prep in our office, followed by 45 minutes to present and defend it. Mocking up creatives for different segments, reading a set of campaign metrics, telling us what you’d kill and what you’d scale and why.
4. Final chat with leadership, 60 minutes. Fit both ways, and your questions.

To apply, send us your CV at [email protected] with the subject and a few lines on a campaign that didn’t work and what you did about it.

We will prioritize these applications first.
