About the Position The Hairdresser is central to the shop’s day-to-day trade, delivering the full range of cutting, styling, colouring and grooming services to the clients who come through its doors at DFO Jindalee. Working within a shopping-centre setting where walk-in demand rises sharply on weekends, public holidays and centre sale events, the successful applicant will consult with each client, carry out services to a high technical standard, keep the appointment book moving and maintain the hygiene and presentation standards that bring clients back, while supporting colleagues across the floor during peak periods.

Key Responsibilities

Consult with clients to understand the cut, style or service they want, and analyse the condition of their hair and scalp before starting work

Advise clients on suitable styles, hair and scalp care, and the products and routines best suited to their hair type

Shampoo, condition and treat hair in preparation for and following services

Cut, trim, taper and fade hair using clippers, scissors and razors, and finish with styling to the client’s requirements

Colour,



lighten, perm, straighten and treat hair, selecting and mixing products correctly and following manufacturers’ instructions

Shave, shape and trim beards and moustaches using appropriate techniques and hygiene practices

Clean, disinfect and sterilise tools, equipment and workstations between clients, and keep the salon clean, tidy and presentable

Comply with workplace health and safety, infection control and chemical-handling requirements

Manage bookings and walk-in clients, maintain client records and keep services running to schedule

Process payments at the point of sale and recommend and sell retail hair and grooming products

Monitor stock levels of products and consumables and report replenishment needs

Support and guide less experienced team members on technique, client service and salon standards

Requirements

Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.

Certificate III in Hairdressing or a related field, or at least three years of relevant experience.

A minimum of two to three years’ experience working as a hairdresser.

Robust technical skills in men’s cutting, clipper and scissor work, fading, beard shaping and razor work, with sound knowledge of colouring and chemical services.

Working knowledge of salon hygiene, sterilisation and infection-control practices and of workplace health and safety requirements.

Ability to use booking and point-of-sale systems accurately and to keep client records up to date.

Excellent communication and client-service skills, with the ability to understand and deliver what each client wants.

Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy periods, manage time across booked and walk-in clients, and work well as part of a team.

Availability to work full time, including weekends and public holidays as rostered.
