About Us

Ellis’ Belly is an independent neighbourhood café located in Northcote, known for our specialty coffee, creative brunch dishes and welcoming atmosphere.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Head Chef or Sous Chef to join our team and take a leading role in our kitchen.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced chef looking for a stable daytime position, with the freedom to contribute ideas and grow with the business.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage daily kitchen operations and ensure smooth, efficient service.
- Maintain consistent food quality, presentation and portion control.
- Lead, train and support kitchen team members.
- Assist with menu development, seasonal specials and current dishes.
- Manage food ordering, stock control, waste reduction and food costs.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness.
- Work closely with the café management team to improve kitchen efficiency and profitability.

About You
- Previous experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef or strong Senior Chef.




- Experience in a busy Australian brunch café or similar hospitality environment.
- Solid leadership, communication and organisational skills.
- Confident managing busy breakfast and lunch services.
- Good knowledge of food costing, ordering and stock management.
- Passionate about fresh ingredients, creative food and consistent quality.
- Reliable, proactive and comfortable working independently.
- Strong understanding of Australian food safety standards.
