If you’re a commercially minded finance professional who loves partnering with the business, asking the right questions and turning numbers into better decisions, this could be your next big move.
Industry Pathways Group (IPW) is looking for a Head of Commercial Finance to play a pivotal role in our next chapter of growth. This is an opportunity for an experienced finance qualified to broaden their influence, lead a team and work directly with our CEO and senior leaders to shape commercial performance across a growing, multi-business group.
We’re not looking for someone who simply reports on what happened last month. We’re looking for someone who wants to understand why it happened, what it means for the business and most importantly, what we can do about it.
If you’re ready to move beyond being the person who provides the numbers and become the person who helps drive the decisions, we’d love to hear from you.
Why this opportunity is different
- A seat at the table. Work closely with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team, contributing directly to commercial strategy, business planning and growth decisions.
- Real business partnering. Build relationships with leaders across our businesses, helping them understand their numbers, challenge assumptions, identify opportunities and take ownership of results.
- Leadership without losing the commercial edge. Lead and develop our finance capability while staying close to the analysis, conversations and decisions that make a tangible difference.
- A growing group with plenty to shape. Help build better reporting, forecasting, commercial insights and ways of working as IPW continues to evolve and grow.
- Room to make your mark. From improving profitability and cash flow to supporting acquisitions, automation and business improvement, you’ll have the opportunity to influence how we operate and where we go next.
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the CEO and joining the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll bring together commercial insight, financial stewardship and people leadership to help drive the performance of the Group.
Your focus will include
- Driving commercial performance: Lead budgeting, forecasting and business planning, helping the business understand its financial position and identify opportunities to improve revenue, profitability and cash flow.
- Making business partnering count: Work alongside General Managers and Directors to interpret performance, challenge constructively and turn insights into practical action.
- Building accountability:
Establish meaningful monthly business performance reviews, clear KPIs and a stronger connection between financial results and operational decisions.
- Supporting strategic decisions: Develop financial models, business cases and analysis that help the CEO and leadership team assess opportunities, manage risk and make informed decisions.
- Leading and developing your team: Coach and support the Finance Manager and broader finance team, building a team that delivers both solid financial governance and valuable commercial insight.
- Providing sound financial stewardship: Oversee financial reporting, controls, cash flow, banking relationships, funding arrangements and insurance.
- Keeping governance on track: Provide oversight of corporate governance, statutory obligations and risk/compliance.
- Helping shape the future: Contribute to growth initiatives, acquisition due diligence and integration, identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and efficiency through automation and emerging technology.
What you’ll bring
You’re commercially curious, pragmatic and comfortable building relationships across a business. You understand that the best finance leaders don’t operate in isolation, they help others make better decisions.
- Solid experience in commercial finance, management accounting, financial planning and analysis, or a similar commercially focused finance role.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to connect financial results with operational performance.
- Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and business planning.
- A genuine passion for business partnering, with the confidence to influence, challenge and support senior stakeholders.
- The ability to turn complex financial information into clear, practical insights and recommendations.
- An interest in developing people, improving processes and building stronger financial capability across a business.
- The judgement to balance commercial ambition with sound governance, risk management and financial discipline.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance or accounting, together with CPA, CA or equivalent professional accreditation.
You may already be leading a commercial finance function, or you could be a Commercial Finance Manager, Financial Controller or senior finance business partner ready to take that next step into broader leadership.
Experience in vocational education, healthcare, professional services or another regulated industry would be advantageous, as would exposure to acquisitions and business integration.
Most importantly, we’re interested in how you think, how you partner with people and the impact you can have, not just the size of the organisations on your CV.
