ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY
Yugul Mangi Development Aboriginal Corporation (YMDAC) was established on 10 April 2008 to develop the social, economic, governance and cultural wellbeing of the Ngukurr community. On the northern side of the Roper River, these lands extend from Blue Mud Bay across toward Bulman, down the Wilton River Valley to Roper River and out to the Gulf. On the southern side of the river the lands extend from the west of Buddawka to the Hodgson River and includes the Towns River and Limmen National Park and the Marla Land Trust.
Our aim is to strengthen cultural governance authority, social and community development services that improve individual, family and community social and emotional wellbeing and build a sustainable viable local economy creating full employment, career pathways and an end to inter-generational welfare dependence.
The Healing for Stronger Families (HSF) Ngukurr program is a community-led, early intervention healing service. It provides steady, calm and culturally safe support for women, men young people and families before situations escalate to police, the protected house, or child protection. The program is focused on group-based healing, relational support and building local capability.
This role will work within the HSF team to support projects which involve Aboriginal designed and led culturally grounded, integrated, trauma-aware and resilience- focused models that strengthen family well-being and reduce the impacts of violence, grief and loss on Aboriginal children and families.
The role will be responsible for creating the Healing Groups Practice Model through which individual and community healing occurs, using rhythm, relationships, story, cultural authority, and embodied experience.
