The Company Our client is a highly respected government-focused organisation delivering advanced research and innovation programs across intelligence, law enforcement and emerging technologies.

The Role

As a result of ongoing investment in advanced AI capabilities, an exciting opportunity exists for a Machine Learning Researcher to lead the design, development and evaluation of a secure human-in-the-loop artificial intelligence platform. The solution will support the triage and analysis of potentially distressing digital material while reducing unnecessary investigator exposure and improving operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

- Design multimodal ML solutions across image, video, text and audi
- Develop classification, detection and analyst-review capabilities
- Evaluate reliable, explainable and effective ML models
- Build secure, reproducible ML pipelines
- Deploy AI in secure and disconnected environments
- Translate operational needs into technical outcome
- Develop safe, auditable review tools
- Validate and assure model performance
- Conduct risk and adversarial testing
- Produce technical reports and recommendation
- Provide leadership to collaborating researchers, technical specialists and project stakeholders





Essential Experience

- Postgraduate qualification in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering or related discipline
- Demonstrated experience delivering machine learning solutions beyond proof-of-concept stage
- Advanced Python development skills
- Hands-on experience with up-to-date ML frameworks such as PyTorch
- Experience building reproducible data pipelines and deployable software solutions
- Strong understanding of model evaluation including precision, recall, class imbalance, calibration and uncertainty
- Experience working with sensitive or security-controlled information
- Ability to translate complex operational requirements into practical technical outcomes
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Strong knowledge of privacy, security, responsible AI and human oversight principles
