Most people never think twice about the air they breathe at work, the noise around them or what’s on their hands at the end of a shift.
Occupational hygienists do. Yet many people have never heard of occupational hygiene.
It’s a specialist career that combines science, fieldwork and practical problem-solving to help protect people from workplace health risks.
At GCG, we’re looking for someone curious, dependable and interested in building expertise in this area. You don’t need to arrive knowing everything. We’ll provide the mentoring, hands-on experience and technical development to help you build your capability and career over time.
What You’ll Do
Working alongside experienced hygienists, you’ll learn to:
- Monitor workplace exposures including dust, chemicals, noise and vibration
- Use sampling and monitoring equipment
- Conduct respirator and hearing protection fit testing
- Conduct workplace inspections and assessments
- Analyse results and contribute to reports
- Help clients find practical ways to reduce workplace health risks
Who We’re Looking For There’s no single pathway into occupational hygiene. You might come from science, health, safety, environment, mining or another industrial field. Or you might simply be interested in this kind of work and ready to build a specialist career. What Matters To Us Is That You’re
- Curious and willing to learn
- Practical and comfortable working on industrial sites
- Reliable, organised and able to communicate well
- Comfortable working independently and asking questions when needed
- Interested in developing specialist expertise over time
- Willing to travel and work away regularly
We’ll invest in your development Occupational hygiene takes time to learn and we’re prepared to invest that time in you. You’ll receive structured mentoring from experienced hygienists, exposure to different industries and projects, support for professional development including a pathway towards professional membership and certification through the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH). As your skills and experience grow, so will your responsibility.
The important bit
This isn’t an office-only job. The role involves fieldwork and up to 14 days working away in some months. The travel gives you the chance to experience different workplaces, industries and health risks but we know working away won’t suit everyone. We’d rather be upfront about that from the start.
You’ll also need a current Australian unrestricted manual car driver’s licence and unrestricted Australian work rights. We are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.
Interested?
If something about working in occupational hygiene has sparked your interest, we’d like to hear from you.
