National Patient Transport

Geelong

Work That Stays Needed

Every day, patients across Geelong and the surrounding region need to get to dialysis, specialist appointments and rehab, home from hospital, or safely between hospitals and care facilities, including transfers to Melbourne. National Patient Transport makes that happen. We’re growing our Geelong team and recruiting for two roles. If you want healthcare work you can count on, close to home, we’d like to meet you.

Two Roles, One Team

Patient Transport Officers (PTOs) hold a minimum Cert III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport and provide care and transport for patients who need mobility support and basic care. Ambulance Transport Attendants (ATAs) hold a higher clinical qualification and provide clinical monitoring and treatment for low and medium acuity patients. PTOs and ATAs often work together on the same crew. Tell us in your application which role you’re applying for.

What You’ll Get

- Pay certainty:

– PTO: $32.05 per hour for full-time and part time, or $40.06 per hour for casuals (including 25% casual loading)

– ATA: $36.25 per hour for full-time and part-time, or $45.31 per hour for casuals (including 25% casual loading)

– Plus allowances and penalty rates for nights, weekends and public holidays under the NPT Victorian Enterprise Agreement

- Paid induction training, so you earn from day one

- Full-time, part-time and casual positions, so you can choose the pattern of work that suits you

- Work based locally in Geelong

- Ongoing training and skills development, with pathways to progress your career

- Uniform supplied
- The security of working for a company backed by ComfortDelGro,

one of the world’s largest land transport operators

The Roles

As a Patient Transport Officer, you’ll provide safe, respectful transport for patients using stretchers, walkers and hoists, working alongside an ATA or as the primary carer for lower acuity patients. That means helping patients move safely, maintaining ongoing treatments during transport, talking with patients, families and clinical staff in a way that puts people at ease, and handing over clearly at the end of each transfer.

As an Ambulance Transport Attendant, you’ll provide clinical care for low and medium acuity patients during planned transfers, taking responsibility for every aspect of their care on the road. That means maintaining active treatments, administering medications from the drug kit in line with NEPT clinical protocols, recognising when a patient is deteriorating and escalating to an emergency ambulance or the nearest appropriate facility, and delivering a thorough handover with documentation and medications.

In both roles, you’ll keep accurate patient care records and make sure your vehicle and equipment are checked, stocked and ready for the next shift.

About You For the PTO role:

- Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport (HLT31120 or equivalent)

For the ATA role

- Minimum of Diploma of Emergency Healthcare (or equivalent)

For both roles
- Full Victorian driver’s licence, with the ability to drive [manual and automatic] vehicles

- A National Police Check
- A VicRoads driving history report

- Willingness to meet immunisation requirements for Victorian healthcare workers

It Helps If You Have

Experience in non-emergency patient transport, healthcare, aged care or another patient-facing role, manual handling and patient transfer experience, or local knowledge of Geelong’s hospitals and health services. If you don’t, our induction will cover it. It builds on your qualification rather than replacing it.

What Happens After You Apply

We hold interview days ahead of every induction intake, so you won’t be left waiting. Shortlisted applicants receive an invitation to a short phone interview from our HR team within 5-7 business days, followed by an in-person interview on Microsoft Teams, so you won’t need to travel to Melbourne for it. Successful applicants start in our next available induction intake at Mitcham, which includes a driving assessment. If your application isn’t successful this time, we’ll let you know.

Diversity & Inclusion

We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and encourage applications from people of all genders, backgrounds and experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people with disability.
