Australian Theatre For Young People (Atyp)
Sydney
ATYP has been making theatre with young people for more than 60 years. We’re a national company. We develop and produce new Australian plays, tour our work nationwide, and run programs that give young people real pathways into the industry.
We’re looking for a Producer to join our small team and work closely with our Artistic Director & CEO on the artistic program.
You’ll produce our season, from pre-production through to closing night and acquittal. That means managing budgets, contracts, casting, and schedules, and keeping our productions protected for the young artists who make them. You’ll also help us build our touring, including finding presenters, putting together tour budgets and agreements, and getting shows on the road, including in regional and remote communities.
You’ll also help us plan what’s next by scoping new projects, testing their feasibility, and identifying the artists and stories we should back.
To be considered, you’ll need:
- experience producing theatre or live performance, including building and managing budgets
- experience negotiating and issuing contracts with artists, creatives and presenters
- experience scoping projects and putting together budgets, schedules and resourcing
- good relationships with people, whether that’s an agent, a presenter or a 16-year-old actor in their first show
- strong organisational skills and the ability to juggle several projects at once
- a solid knowledge of the Australian theatre sector and a real interest in new work for and with young people
- a current NSW Working With Children Check, or the ability to get one.
It would be great if you also have touring experience and presenter contacts, have written or acquitted funding applications, have worked in youth arts, or know your way around the Live Performance Award and MEAA agreements.
The role includes evening and weekend work, plus some travel. Time in lieu applies, and we’re open to flexible arrangements.
How to apply
Apply via an email to Hayden Tonazzi, Artistic Director & CEO, attaching:
- a cover letter (two pages max) telling us how you meet the criteria above
- your CV.
We’ll ask shortlisted applicants for two referees, and we’ll check with you before contacting them. The Position Description is available by emailing Hayden Tonazzi at

Key dates
- Applications close at 9am on Monday 26 October 2026.
- Shortlisted applicants will hear from us on Tuesday 27 October.
- First interviews are on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 October.
- If any of these dates don’t work for you, tell us in your cover letter, and we’ll do our best to work around them. ATYP is a child-safe organisation. We welcome applications from First Nations people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability, LGBTQIA+ people and people living in regional areas.
