A global portfolio led from Melbourne.
About the opportunity
A global leader in analytical science is hiring a Product Management Manager to lead the team behind its spectroscopy consumables and chemical standards portfolio. The role is based at the company's long-established Melbourne site, and the portfolio supports laboratories around the world across semiconductor, chemical, environmental, mining and industrial markets. This is a genuine leadership appointment, reporting directly to the divisional AVP. You'll own the portfolio's direction and commercial results, and lead the team that takes it to market.
The role
You'll be accountable for the portfolio's pricing, positioning, roadmap, lifecycle and revenue. You'll lead a small, capable team spread across Australia, Europe and the United States, made up of product managers and an application scientist. Your job is to bring them together, set the team's rhythm and keep the portfolio moving forward.
Day to day, you will:
- Set portfolio strategy, including pricing, messaging, positioning and configuration, to meet financial and growth targets
- Lead and coach a geographically dispersed team
- Run voice-of-customer, market research and competitive analysis to shape the roadmap and uncover new opportunities
- Work with R&D; on new product introduction timelines, and with the global spectroscopy instruments division, where results come through influence rather than authority
- Partner with marketing communications on global lead generation
- Build the sales training and enablement programs that help the global sales team position the portfolio
- Work with worldwide sales on funnel and forecast management
- Represent the portfolio at conferences, workshops and customer sites
About you
- Inbound product management experience, not just outbound: voice of customer, specifications, R&D; collaboration, pricing,
sales enablement and lifecycle management from launch to sunset
- Spectroscopy domain knowledge is the priority, whether gained in a product role or hands-on as a scientist or user (for example ICP-OES, ICP-MS, AAS or XRF). Experience in applied markets such as semiconductor, chemical analysis, environmental or mining will put you at the front of the queue, and analytical or organic chemistry standards experience is equally valued
- Proven people leadership, which is non-negotiable. You can show where you've led a team, ideally a dispersed one, with authority, empathy and sound political judgement
- The maturity to work across a matrixed organisation: navigating ambiguity, pushing back professionally and keeping a team aligned, without treating resource constraints as a permanent roadblock
- A tertiary qualification in analytical chemistry or a related discipline; a Master's or PhD is preferred
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills for internal stakeholders, customers and conference audiences
- Comfort working across time zones. The team spans three continents, and the leadership group shares the early and late calls rather than leaving them to one person
Candidates with a strong commercial or outbound marketing background will be considered where their spectroscopy expertise is genuinely deep. Scientists and technical leaders with hands-on experience using spectroscopy in a laboratory or R&D; setting, combined with robust product management or new product introduction experience, will also be considered. Based in Mulgrave with a minimum of three days a week on site, and flexibility on hours
This role can't be performed remotely or from interstate, because being close to the global spectroscopy R&D; group on site is a deliberate part of the design. Interstate applicants should be prepared to relocate to Melbourne
Send your resume, highlighting your spectroscopy domain expertise.
