Lead the floor | Learn the process | Grow into the business | Not just another job - this is a career move | Mentorship from GM | Challenge in bespoke product delivery

Every job that leaves our workshop has been measured, quoted and designed for one client. We are looking for a hands-on Production Supervisor to lead the factory floor, work closely with the General Manager to deliver a live schedule on time, and grow into a senior leadership role as the business expands.

About Morley Canvas

Morley Canvas started in 1984 as a small family business repairing and manufacturing canvas and PVC products in Perth. More than 40 years on, it is one of the best-known canvas businesses in Western Australia, with workshops in Bayswater and Australind.

Everything is made in WA: awnings, blinds and shade sails, ute canopies, caravan and camping canvas, marine trimming, and commercial and mining products. Most work is custom quoted and designed for each client, alongside a smaller range of ready-made lines. The business has built its reputation over four decades on quality materials, attention to detail and a can-do approach to getting the job done.

Why this role The business has grown to the point where the factory needs its own leader. This is the role that connects the General Manager with the factory floor. You will work side by side with the General Manager, who will support you through a smooth transition.

- You lead the floor: the team, rosters, quality and delivery, working to a tried and tested production process.
- The General Manager leads client contact and scheduling, then hands accepted jobs to you to plan and deliver.
- You take direction from the General Manager and make sound calls on the floor within an established process. This suits someone who respects what already works and takes ownership of getting it done.
- Office and floor are the same job here. You will spend as much time alongside the team as you do at the planning board.

What makes it different

- No two jobs are the same. Most work is bespoke and the schedule is live. Priorities shift during the day, and you will keep the floor moving to plan.
- A transformation business. Morley Canvas is investing in automation and digital systems across the customer journey, from enquiry through to installation.

You will learn the new systems alongside the team and help bed them in on the floor.
- An established name. Four decades in WA, a tried and tested way of working, and much of the work coming through referral. The foundations are strong, and the direction is growth.
- A team that pitches in. When a deadline matters, people roll up their sleeves and make it work, because client delivery and reputation come first.
- A skilled, multicultural team. Machinists, cutters and sewers who value clear direction and a leader who is present on the floor.

Growth and pathway

This role has a clear pathway built in, linked to the business’s succession plan.

- Now: lead the team and the floor, delivering the production plan with the General Manager’s direction and support.
- Next: take on the scheduling and purchasing functions as they move across to you, and step into a manager role.
- Longer term: as the business expands and the General Manager moves toward a Managing Director role, there is a pathway for the right person to step into general management.

The General Manager will work alongside you from day one to support a smooth transition, with a structured onboarding plan as you take on each stage.

A day in your life

- Start on the floor: check who is in, confirm the roster and set the day’s priorities with the team.
- Work through newly accepted jobs with the General Manager and plan the materials, cutting, machine time and labour.
- Adjust the day’s plan when a rush order lands, material is delayed or a client changes the specification, bringing the General Manager in on bigger changes.
- Work alongside machinists and cutters to solve a construction or fit issue, and check quality before a job moves on.
- Work with the General Manager on materials and supplier orders, building toward owning purchasing.
- Support the team as new digital systems are introduced, following the agreed process.
- Close out with the General Manager on progress,

capacity and risks for tomorrow, with finished jobs lined up for dispatch and installation.

What you bring

- Confidence and experience from a manufacturing environment where product is made on site, including time leading a production team as a supervisor, team leader or leading hand.
- A strong grounding in Australia within a manufacturing workflow, ideally built in scheduling, planning or purchasing.
- Experience in canvas, textiles, upholstery, marine trim, awnings, signage or another made-to-order workplace is highly regarded but not essential.
- A hands-on leadership style, with experience building rosters and structuring a team with a wide range of skills, experience and backgrounds.
- Sound judgement under a live schedule, a clear eye for quality, and a willingness to work to an established process with direction from the General Manager.
- Working knowledge of WHS and confidence using digital scheduling and workforce tools.
- A current C class WA driver’s licence and the ability to obtain a National Police Clearance.
- Unrestricted working rights within Australia.
