Are you an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person looking to build a rewarding career caring for Country? Based in the spectacular Daintree National Park (CYPAL) World Heritage Area, this identified Ranger position offers the opportunity to work alongside Joint Management partners to protect important natural and cultural values while helping visitors safely enjoy one of Queensland's most significant landscapes. You'll be part of a supportive team delivering meaningful conservation outcomes through fire, pest and visitor management programs, cultural and environmental projects, and community engagement.
If you enjoy leading people, working outdoors and making a positive difference for Country and community, this could be the role for you.
As a Ranger, you will support the Ranger in Charge to lead and coordinate a diverse work program across the Daintree National Park (CYPAL) - Diwan Management Unit, working closely with Joint Management partners to achieve conservation and cultural heritage outcomes. You will also contribute to maintaining and improving park infrastructure, delivering capital works projects and supporting annual work planning and budgeting processes.
The role combines practical field work with leadership responsibilities.
You will help supervise and support staff, students and volunteers, contribute to workforce development and training and foster a positive team culture that values safety, respect and continuous improvement. You will also undertake plant operation and maintenance, natural and cultural resource management activities and project co-ordination to support the day-to-day management of the park.
You will regularly engage with visitors, Traditional Owners and other stakeholders by responding to enquiries, conducting park patrols and supporting community and partner relationships. The position also plays an important role in emergency response activities, including wildfire response, natural disaster recovery, search and rescue operations and medical incidents. Administrative responsibilities include maintaining records, coordinating procurement activities and preparing reports that support effective park management.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a dynamic outdoor workplace where no two days are the same. Success will come from your ability to build strong relationships, work collaboratively with Joint Management partners, support and develop others, and contribute to the protection of the natural and cultural values that make the Daintree such a special place.
