About Redenlab
Redenlab is an Australian health technology company specialising in the development and application of speech and language biomarkers for neurological diseases.
We work with pharmaceutical companies, academic researchers and clinical trial organisations internationally to develop and validate speech-based measures of neurological function and disease progression.
Our multidisciplinary team brings together expertise in speech pathology, neuroscience, clinical research, acoustic analysis and artificial intelligence.
About the Prospect
We are seeking two Research Assistants with qualifications in speech pathology to contribute to a research project investigating speech changes in people living with a progressive neurological disease.
The primary responsibility will be to conduct auditory-perceptual assessments of recorded speech samples using established rating protocols.
Successful applicants will receive training and ongoing support from Redenlab’s experienced clinical and research team. Previous research experience is desirable but not essential.
This is a fully remote position offering flexible working arrangements. The work can be undertaken alongside existing clinical employment, postgraduate study or other professional commitments.
Each Research Assistant will complete approximately 274 hours of work over three months, equivalent to approximately 21 hours per week. Some flexibility in the distribution of hours is possible, provided project milestones and deadlines are met.
An Opportunity for Aspiring Researchers
This position is particularly suited to:
- Early-career speech pathologists considering undertaking a PhD.
- Speech pathologists seeking to develop their research experience and academic track record.
- Individuals preparing to apply for competitive postgraduate research scholarships.
- Clinicians interested in gaining experience in neurological speech research.
- Speech pathologists currently working part time who are interested in contributing to a research project.
Successful applicants will be offered co-authorship on the primary scientific publication arising from the project, subject to meeting standard academic authorship criteria. The position provides an opportunity to gain practical research experience, develop skills in perceptual speech analysis and contribute to research with potential applications in neurological disease assessment and clinical trials.
Key Responsibilities The successful applicants will:
- Conduct auditory-perceptual assessments of recorded speech samples from individuals with progressive neurological disease.
- Apply standardised perceptual rating protocols accurately and consistently.
- Participate in initial training, calibration and familiarisation sessions with the Redenlab team.
- Complete assigned speech assessments within agreed timelines.
- Maintain accurate and organised records of ratings and assessment outcomes.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, including inter-rater reliability assessments and review of rating discrepancies.
- Identify and communicate any uncertainties or difficulties encountered during assessment.
- Attend occasional remote meetings with the research team to discuss progress and resolve assessment-related questions.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with research data security and privacy requirements.
Essential Selection Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate

2. English language proficiency: Native or near-native English proficiency, with excellent auditory-perceptual discrimination skills. Familiarity with Australian English is preferred.
3. Attention to detail: Ability to conduct repetitive, structured assessments with a high degree of accuracy and consistency.
4. Independent working skills: Ability to work autonomously, follow established protocols and maintain accurate records.
5. Organisation and reliability: Strong time-management skills and demonstrated ability to meet agreed deadlines.
6. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a remote research team.
7. Availability: Capacity to commence as soon as possible and complete approximately 274 hours of work within three months.
8. Technical requirements: Access to a reliable computer, stable internet connection and suitable headphones for auditory-perceptual assessment.
Desirable Selection Criteria The following experience or attributes would be advantageous:
- Clinical experience assessing adults with motor speech disorders, particularly dysarthria.
- Experience working with people with progressive neurological diseases.
- Previous involvement in speech or language research.
- Experience conducting perceptual speech assessments or structured clinical ratings.
- Familiarity with research data collection, quality assurance or inter-rater reliability procedures.
- Australian speech pathology qualifications or equivalent training.
- An interest in pursuing postgraduate research, including a PhD.
Previous research experience is not essential. We are particularly interested in applicants who demonstrate strong perceptual skills, reliability, attention to detail and an interest in developing their research capabilities.

Successful applicants will receive training from Redenlab’s clinical and research team before commencing independent assessments.
Training will include
- Familiarisation with the study objectives and assessment procedures.
- Instruction in the perceptual rating protocols.
- Practice assessments and calibration exercises.
- Guidance on recording and submitting assessment results.
- Ongoing quality assurance and feedback throughout the project.
Applicants are not expected to have prior experience with the specific assessment protocols used in this study.
