Bhattarai and Brothers Pty Ltd The Retail Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a supermarket outlet within a retail chain, ensuring efficient store management, achievement of sales targets, effective staff supervision, excellent customer service, and compliance with company policies and applicable legislation. The position involves managing inventory, coordinating purchasing and merchandising activities, monitoring financial performance, maintaining food safety and workplace safety standards, and implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency and profitability.

The Retail

Manager works closely with senior management, suppliers, employees, and other store managers to ensure consistent operational standards across the supermarket chain.

Key Duties and Responsibilities Store Operations Management Oversee the daily operations of the supermarket to ensure smooth and efficient functioning. Implement company policies, operational procedures, and service standards across all departments. Monitor store performance and ensure adequate staffing, stock availability, and operational resources.

Develop and implement strategies to improve productivity, operational efficiency, and profitability. Prepare operational reports and provide regular updates to senior management.

Staff

Management and Supervision Recruit, train, supervise, and manage store employees, checkout operators, sales assistants, and stock handlers. Prepare staff rosters, allocate duties, and manage staffing requirements in accordance with business needs. Monitor employee performance, provide feedback, and organise training and development activities.

Maintain a positive workplace culture and resolve staff issues in accordance with company policies. Ensure employees comply with workplace health and safety requirements and company procedures. Sales and Financial Management Develop and implement strategies to achieve sales targets and improve store profitability.

Monitor daily sales, revenue, operating expenses, gross margins, and key performance indicators. Analyse sales trends, customer demand, and market conditions to identify opportunities for growth. Control operational costs,



minimise wastage, and improve stock turnover.

Assist with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and performance reviews. Inventory and Supply Chain Management Oversee stock ordering, receiving, storage, replenishment, and distribution within the store. Maintain appropriate stock levels to meet customer demand and minimise shortages or overstocking.

Monitor inventory records and coordinate regular stocktakes and stock reconciliation. Liaise with suppliers and distribution centres regarding orders, deliveries, pricing, and product availability. Implement procedures to minimise theft, spoilage, damage, and stock losses.

Customer

Service and Sales Development Ensure a high standard of customer service throughout the supermarket. Address customer complaints, enquiries, and feedback professionally and promptly. Monitor customer satisfaction and implement improvements to the shopping experience.

Oversee promotional activities, special offers, pricing displays, and product placement. Develop initiatives to attract current customers, retain existing customers, and increase sales. Merchandising and Store Presentation Ensure products are displayed attractively and in accordance with company merchandising standards.

Monitor shelf availability, product rotation, pricing accuracy, and promotional displays. Ensure the store is clean, organised, well-maintained, and appropriately presented. Coordinate seasonal promotions and product displays in line with marketing plans.

Ensure stock rotation practices are followed, particularly for perishable and short-dated products. Compliance, Food Safety and Workplace Health and Safety Ensure the store operates in accordance with applicable Australian laws, regulations, and industry standards. Maintain compliance with workplace health and safety,



food safety, hygiene, and relevant employment requirements.

Ensure products are stored and handled appropriately, including temperature-controlled and perishable goods. Monitor product expiry dates, recalls, labelling, and other relevant compliance requirements. Identify workplace hazards and implement appropriate risk management and incident reporting procedures.

Supplier and Stakeholder Relationships Maintain effective working relationships with suppliers, wholesalers, distributors, and service providers. Negotiate or coordinate purchasing arrangements within delegated authority. Liaise with head office and senior management regarding store performance, operational issues, and business objectives.

Coordinate with other supermarket outlets to maintain consistent standards and share operational best practices.

Skills and Competencies Strong leadership, staff supervision, and team management skills. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service abilities. Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to analyse sales data, manage budgets, and control operational costs. Knowledge of inventory management, merchandising, and retail operations. Understanding of food safety, workplace health and safety, and retail compliance requirements.

Ability to manage competing priorities and make effective operational decisions. Proficiency in point-of-sale systems, inventory management software, and standard business applications.

Qualifications and Experience A relevant qualification in retail management, business management, or a related field is desirable. Demonstrated experience in supermarket, grocery retail, or large-format retail management.

Experience supervising staff, managing stock, monitoring sales performance, and controlling operating costs.

Experience working with suppliers, inventory systems, and retail reporting procedures. Knowledge of Australian retail regulations and supermarket operational requirements.
