Job Description

About Better Health Company

At Better Health Company, we’re all about making better health easier for everyone. We cut through the noise with trusted, evidence-based programs and services that help people make lasting, healthy changes. With over 15 years of experience in health promotion, we design and deliver practical, real-world solutions through government-funded programs, professional training, and accessible resources for individuals and families.

We’re passionate about reaching the people who need it most, including those from low socio-economic backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities. At our core, we’re a team of passionate go-getters who believe in what we do and we’re always looking for current ways to make an even bigger impact.

About Your New Role

We are accepting expressions of interest for an Aboriginal Health Coach to deliver phone-based health coaching and support services for participants on our programs across Australia.

What you’ll be doing:

- Support families and adults over the phone through health coaching calls across our programs
- Give simple, practical advice about healthy eating, moving more, and cutting down screen time, based on national health guidelines
- Help families set small goals and make positive changes that last
- Connect with communities and stakeholders to build strong relationships
- Share your knowledge to help make sure our training is relevant for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal staff
- Advise and support our team on Aboriginal cultural and community matters
- Help with follow-ups, data entry, and promotional activities
- Join in training and quality improvement to keep growing your skills
- Assist with creating and adapting resources to make sure they are culturally safe and meaningful for Aboriginal families

You can do this job remotely from anywhere in Australia, or work on-site at our Abbotsford, VIC office if you prefer. The role can be full time or part time, depending on what suits you best, and we’re happy to discuss your preferred hours and work arrangements.

Ideally you will be able to work a few evenings per week as our programs offer later coaching appointment times.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who:

- Identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- Has a qualification in a health field (like Bachelor of Nutrition, Exercise Science, Nursing, Health Promotion or Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice)
- Can build strong relationships with different people
- Works well independently and in a team
- Is well organised and good at managing time
- Has (or is willing to get) a Working with Children Check
- Has (or is willing to get) a police check

This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identified Position. Being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this role, as permitted under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984. Applicants will be asked to confirm their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage, which may include a letter from a recognised Indigenous organisation or a statutory declaration, in line with accepted guidelines.

Our Commitment

Better Health Company recognises the unique knowledge, insights, and cultural strengths that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples bring to our organisation. This role is critical in supporting culturally safe and responsive services for our community. We encourage applications from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds.
