Rate Guide: $140 -$160hr

Location: Canberra (ACT), Melbourne (VIC), Brisbane (QLD) or Adelaide (SA)

Working Arrangement: Hybrid – onsite attendance required as needed

Contract Duration: 12 months + potential extensions of up to 24 months

Estimated Start Date: 1 January 2027

Security Clearance: Active NV1 required before commencement

Experience Level: Senior / EL1 equivalent

Hours: As required by the engagement, with occasional out-of-hours activities

About the Opportunity

Babylon Data is seeking experienced Senior Database Infrastructure Engineers to support Services Australia in delivering critical enterprise database infrastructure services.

These positions will provide specialist technical expertise across Microsoft SQL Server, IBM Db2 z/OS, IBM Db2 Midrange and MongoDB environments.

An immediate priority is the planning, validation and implementation of MongoDB upgrades and migrations, ensuring platform stability, performance, data integrity and service continuity.

Successful candidates will work closely with Australian Government technical teams to modernise database infrastructure, resolve complex technical issues and strengthen operational resilience.

Key Responsibilities

- Administer, maintain and optimise enterprise database environments across SQL Server, Db2 z/OS, Db2 Midrange and MongoDB.
- Plan, test and implement database upgrades, migrations and platform improvements, with an immediate focus on MongoDB.
- Monitor and optimise database performance, availability, security and operational stability.
- Manage replication, backup,



recovery and high-availability configurations.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with database migrations, version compatibility and infrastructure changes.
- Support database technologies operating within containerised environments.
- Troubleshoot complex database performance, configuration and operational issues.
- Collaborate with technical teams to implement controlled changes while minimising downtime.
- Prepare technical documentation, migration plans and operational procedures.
- Support knowledge transfer and capability uplift for internal technical teams.

Essential Skills and Experience Applicants must demonstrate substantial enterprise-level database administration experience, including:

- Microsoft SQL Server: Advanced administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, security and operational support.
- IBM Db2 z/OS: Expert-level administration, performance monitoring, recovery, data integrity and security.
- IBM Db2 Midrange: Expert-level administration, performance optimisation, recovery and operational management.
- MongoDB: Advanced administration, replication, migrations, upgrades, performance tuning and data consistency.
- Containerised Databases: Experience supporting database platforms in container environments and managing associated operational risks.
- Database Migrations: Proven experience planning and implementing controlled upgrades and migrations while maintaining service continuity and data integrity.

Candidates must also demonstrate solid troubleshooting skills, technical documentation capability and the ability to communicate effectively with technical stakeholders.
