Redfern
Blue Box Gym is looking for an experienced Strength Coach / Personal Trainer to join our team in Redfern.
This role will begin on a casual basis with approximately 8-12 paid coaching sessions per week from the outset, across small-group strength training, 1-to-1 coaching and introductory sessions.
You won’t be starting from zero and waiting months for hours to appear.
There is genuine scope to grow your weekly schedule quickly, with additional coaching opportunities opening up over the coming months as our timetable develops and we introduce new Fundamentals group sessions.
For the right person, there is a clear pathway from casual coaching into a part-time position as Blue Box continues to grow.
About Blue Box
We believe strength training is one of the foundations of lifelong health and capability.
We’re not interested in fads, quick fixes or random hard sessions. Our training is structured and progressive, with the aim of helping members build strength, improve movement and fitness, and continue training well for the long run.
Since opening in February 2024, we’ve expanded our timetable, grown our community and built a gym around strength, movement, community and longevity.
Our small-group strength sessions are capped at 10 so members receive genuine coaching and individual attention.
We follow structured programming, but the coaching is individual. Exercises, range of motion, loads and progressions are adjusted around each member’s experience, mobility, injury history and goals.
We’re looking for someone who shares that approach and wants to become an important part of the next stage of Blue Box.
The Role
You’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality coaching across our timetable while also helping grow our 1-to-1 and beginner pathways.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coaching small-group strength and conditioning sessions
- Delivering 1-to-1 personal training, with leads and opportunities provided
- Leading our 1-to-1 introductory sessions
- Coaching our recent Fundamentals sessions launching soon
- Helping new members build confidence and transition into group training
- Managing session flow, timing and individual coaching within a group environment
- Modifying exercises, loads and ranges of motion around injuries, mobility restrictions, experience and individual needs
- Communicating with physiotherapists and allied health professionals when required
- Participating in team meetings, coach development and upskilling
- Supporting community events and the wider Blue Box member experience
The role will begin at around 8-12 coaching sessions per week, with the opportunity to take on additional group and 1-to-1 hours quickly as the role develops.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who genuinely loves strength training and enjoys coaching the general population across different ages, abilities and training backgrounds.
You should be comfortable coaching complete beginners, experienced members and people returning to training after injury or time away.
You’ll need to care about the person in front of you, communicate well and be able to coach within a group setting without losing the individual approach.
We particularly value coaches who are reliable, personable, adaptable and consistent with agreed availability.
Must Have
- Certificate III and IV in Fitness
- Current First Aid and CPR

- Integrity, initiative and no ego
- Consistent availability throughout December

Nice to Have
- Level 1 Strength and Conditioning qualification
