Spend your summer bringing robots to life.

You’ll test, solder and debug the electronics inside the Ferret, learning alongside experienced electrical engineers and helping turn new prototypes into working hardware.

About Puralink

There’s an entire world beneath your feet. We’re building the robots to explore it.

Pipes carry the water we drink, keep cities running and support everything from energy production to data centres. They’re essential, often difficult to access, and surprisingly poorly understood. We’re changing that.

Puralink is building the operating system for the world’s pipes. Our autonomous robot, the Ferret, gets inside infrastructure to inspect and map it. Our software platform, PuralinkOS, turns what it finds into intelligence that helps customers understand their assets and make better decisions.

At our Mascot HQ, mechanical, electrical and software engineers work together to bring the Ferret to life. Boards get designed, prototypes get built and lessons from deployments feed straight into the next iteration. As an intern, you’ll be part of that process.

The role

This is a summer on the electronics bench: soldering components, powering up new boards, tracking down faults and working out why something that should work doesn’t. Then getting it working.

You’ll focus on testing, assembly and board bring-up, with guidance from an experienced electrical engineer. Your work will help us test ideas and improve the Ferret faster. As your skills grow, there may also be opportunities to design prototype and test PCBs.

Expect hands-on work,

plenty of questions and the satisfaction of seeing electronics you’ve worked on become part of a real robot.

What you’ll do

- Bring new boards to life. Help with first power-on checks, debugging and verifying that boards work as intended.
- Put electronics through their paces. Test subsystems, record clear results and help the team understand what’s working and what needs attention.
- Get soldering. Assemble and rework prototype PCBs, including SMD components, building your technique with support from the team.
- Keep builds moving. Track component stock, help source parts and keep the electronics inventory organised.
- Learn the hardware workflow. Work alongside our engineers through assembly, testing, design reviews and commissioning.
- Grow into recent challenges. Depending on your progress and project needs, help create prototype and test PCBs.

What success looks like

You’ve helped turn new boards into working hardware, caught problems early and left clear test results that other engineers can use. Components are easier to find, builds run more smoothly and your soldering, testing and debugging skills have noticeably improved.

You can point to something on the Ferret and say, “I worked on that.”

What we’re looking for

You’re studying Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics Engineering or a related field,

and you enjoy making physical things work.

You’ll bring

- Curiosity about electronics and an appetite for hands-on learning
- Care and patience when assembling, testing and documenting your work
- Initiative to move a task forward, with the judgement to ask for help when needed
- A willingness to investigate problems and learn from things that don’t work first time
- Enthusiasm for working in a small team where priorities can change quickly

You don’t need to have built a robot before. University projects, robotics clubs, Formula SAE, a personal PCB project or time spent tinkering on your own bench all give us something to talk about.

Nice to have

- Soldering experience, particularly with SMD components
- PCB design experience in Altium, KiCad or a similar tool
- Exposure to STM32 microcontrollers and basic embedded programming

These are useful starting points. We also want to hear what you’re keen to learn.

Why spend your summer at Puralink?

Build hardware with a purpose. Your work will contribute to robots designed to operate in places people can’t easily reach.

Learn alongside experienced engineers. Get practical guidance, feedback and a close-up view of how electronics go from a design to a working system.

Own meaningful work. Take responsibility for real tasks, with support as you build confidence.

See beyond the PCB. Work around mechanical and software engineers and learn how your electronics fit into the whole robot.

Join us at HQ. We’re based in Mascot, Sydney, close to Mascot station.
