Trainee Electronic Security Technician – IT Background
Fortis Security | Mount Waverley, Melbourne VIC | Full-time
Got a basic understanding of IT and want to learn a hands-on technical role?
Fortis Security is looking for practical, technically minded people who want to put their IT knowledge to work and learn the installation and service side of electronic security.
You might be working in IT support, have studied IT, built your own computers or simply enjoy figuring out how technology works. If you’re keen to learn, comfortable getting on the tools and interested in a career that combines hardware, software and real-world problem-solving, we’d like to hear from you.
About Fortis Security
Fortis Security delivers CCTV, access control, intercom, alarm and integrated security systems for commercial, government, logistics and critical infrastructure clients across Australia.
Our work brings together physical equipment, cabling, networks and software. We’re looking to develop people who can understand the technology and learn how to install, configure and maintain it properly.
The role
You’ll work alongside experienced technicians on customer sites, developing practical skills in electronic security installation, servicing and commissioning.
This is a hands-on, site-based role. You’ll learn to use tools, fit equipment, work with cabling and understand how a system goes from a drawing to a working installation.
Your IT knowledge will give you a useful starting point when configuring devices, checking network connections and troubleshooting faults. Previous electronic security experience isn’t essential, and you don’t need to be a networking expert.
What you’ll learn and do
- Assist with installing CCTV cameras, access control equipment,
intercoms and alarm systems
- Learn cable installation, labelling and termination under appropriate supervision
- Build, configure and test computers, recording equipment and IP-connected devices
- Set up security software and assist with system programming
- Help test and commission completed installations
- Troubleshoot hardware, software and connectivity issues
- Keep accurate job notes, equipment records and technical documentation
- Follow protected work practices and take pride in neat, reliable installations
What we’re looking for
- Basic IT knowledge, including Windows, computer hardware and troubleshooting
- Some familiarity with networks and IP addresses, or a willingness to learn
- A genuine interest in learning to use tools and work on customer sites
- A practical approach and curiosity about how things work
- Reliability, attention to detail and clear communication
- A willingness to start with the basics, ask questions and learn from experienced technicians
- A current Australian driver’s licence
Experience with electronics, home networking, computer builds, scripting or other technical projects would be useful. Tell us about it, even if it’s something you’ve done outside paid employment.
Why join Fortis?
- Turn your IT knowledge into practical electronic security skills
- Learn alongside experienced technicians on real installation and service jobs
- Work with a mix of computers, networks, software and physical security equipment
- Build a technical career in a growing national business
Apply now
Send us your resume and a short introduction outlining your IT knowledge, any practical projects you’ve worked on and why you’re interested in getting on the tools.
