The Opportunity

As an Underwriter reporting to the Underwriting Team Leader, you will play a crucial role in implementing our underwriting and distribution strategy and delivering market-leading service that makes Rural Affinity easy to do business with. You’ll work closely with brokers, senior underwriters and our Product Management team, contributing to Rural Affinity’s vision of being the obvious choice for our partners.

This role offers meaningful scope to develop your technical capability, deepen your understanding of portfolio performance and agricultural risk, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. Consistent, logical decision-making, a high degree of accuracy and solid broker relationships will be central to your success.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Underwriting new business,



renewals and endorsements within delegated authority and in line with underwriting guidelines to achieve our underwriting objectives.
- Providing professional, market-leading service to brokers, with a high degree of accuracy in every transaction.
- Meeting service delivery standards that support ease of doing business.
- Supporting the Senior Underwriter in signing off referrals from team members with lower delegated authority limits, providing meaningful and constructive feedback.
- Developing a sound understanding of the portfolio performance and monitoring metrics shared by the Product Management team.
- Using data and analysis to inform sound, well-reasoned underwriting decisions.
- Contributing to project work with the Product Management team on an ad hoc basis.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders.
- Committing to ongoing personal and professional development.

What You Bring

- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in underwriting or a related role.
- Proven expertise in underwriting, insurance principles and product knowledge.
- Experience in, or exposure to, agriculture is preferred.
- Strong business acumen, with a proven ability to analyse and use data to inform decision-making.
- Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
- Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills.

An AQF Certificate IV in General Insurance or AQF Diploma of General Insurance is highly regarded.
