We’re proud of the important work we do across Victoria. Want to be part of it?
The Attorney-General of Victoria seeks to recruit a senior and highly skilled lawyer to become the next Victorian Government Solicitor.
The Victorian Government Solicitor heads the Victorian Government Solicitors Office (VGSO), the Office responsible for the provision of high quality and authoritative legal advice to the Victorian Government across a range of interesting areas of law such as constitutional issues, freedom of information, native title and government procurement.
The VGSO is a medium sized legal practice that operates on a full fee-for-service basis and apart from a small area of exclusive work, competes with private sector firms serving Government.
This is a unique opportunity for a highly credentialed executive candidate with a reputation for balanced judgement and a proven capacity to lead a practice or legal branch in either government or the private sector.
It is essential that candidates possess tertiary qualifications in Law and be admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria.
This high-profile position is appointed by the Premier, works directly and closely with the Attorney-General and the Secretary of the Department of Justice and Community Safety.
The terms of this appointment is for a period of up to five years and remuneration is within the Victorian Public Sector EO1 range.
