The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer with a robust Microsoft data platform background to support a data quality and governance initiative ahead of a Microsoft Purview implementation.

This role will focus on assessing, improving and standardising data across the organisation, ensuring data is accurate, consistent, complete and fit for purpose before it is brought into a formal data governance framework.

Working closely with data, technology and business stakeholders, you will identify data quality issues, establish validation and remediation processes, and help lay the foundations for effective data discovery, lineage and governance through Microsoft Purview.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on Data Engineer who enjoys solving complex data problems and improving the reliability and trustworthiness of enterprise data.

Key Responsibilities

- Assess existing data assets, pipelines and datasets to identify data quality issues, inconsistencies, duplication and gaps.
- Profile data to establish quality baselines across accuracy, completeness, consistency, validity and uniqueness.
- Develop and implement data validation rules, quality checks and automated monitoring processes.
- Investigate data anomalies, perform root cause analysis and work with relevant stakeholders to resolve underlying issues.
- Build, maintain and optimise data pipelines and transformation processes within the Microsoft data ecosystem.
- Support data cleansing, standardisation, reconciliation and remediation activities in preparation for Microsoft Purview implementation.
- Work with data owners and business stakeholders to define data quality rules, standards, critical data elements and ownership.
- Document data definitions, business rules, data flows, source systems and lineage to support future governance and catalogue capabilities.
- Collaborate with data architects,



engineers and governance teams to ensure data assets are appropriately structured and prepared for discovery and classification.
- Establish repeatable processes and reporting to measure data quality improvements and support ongoing data management.

Skills and Experience

- Exposure to Microsoft Purview, particularly data discovery, cataloguing, classification, lineage and governance capabilities (beneficial).
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer within a Microsoft-centric data environment.
- Strong hands-on SQL skills, including data profiling, complex queries, reconciliation and validation.
- Experience developing and maintaining data pipelines, data transformations and integration processes.
- Demonstrated experience identifying, analysing and resolving data quality issues across complex datasets.
- Understanding of data quality dimensions, data profiling, metadata management and data governance principles.
- Experience implementing automated data quality checks, validation rules and monitoring frameworks.
- Ability to work with both technical teams and business stakeholders to translate data requirements into practical solutions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills.

This is a 6 month fixed term contract - 5 days in office.

Due to the location of the client, you will additionally require a valid driving licence as well as your own mode of transport.
