Regional VIC – Locum Mental Health Clinician

This role is based in the Short-Term Assessment and Response Team (START), commencing 9 November 2026 to 31 January 2027 (a shorter timeframe may be considered).

The Short-Term Assessment and Response Team (START) supports triage, assessment, treatment, care and support for people of all ages who are experiencing crisis or acute mental illness or psychological distress. START supports access to the Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service, as well as referral to other services or supports in the community.

To be successful in this role you will have a relevant degree in Social Work, Psychology or Occupational Therapy and relevant mental health experience.

Candidates will also have demonstrated experience, skill and / or knowledge in the provision of direct clinical care to people who have experienced mental illness along with a working knowledge of the relevant Mental Health Act. A current driver’s licence is essential.

VIC - Locum Social Worker – Mental Health

Experienced Mental Health Social Worker required for locum based in regional Victoria. The minimum commitment required is six months ++. There is also a permanent role available.

The role will involve establishing a new service and framework.



The mental health is currently outsourced, however this will be an internal service. Join my current Social Worker who has just extended her contract.

The service have a mental health drop-in clinic. You will work with the Hospital Outreach Mental Health team as well as other community organisations. Cases include general counselling to more complex mental health issues, through to assisting people negotiate Medicare, visas, government departments, housing etc.

Community Mental Health experience is essential, as well as experience working with CALD and indigenous communities and experience in rural health. You will join a team of approximately 20 Health Staff including Nurses, Midwife, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Health Promotion, Allied Health Assistants, Podiatrists & Dietitians.
