Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team.
n
The role will support both Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, with a strong focus on customer and supplier reconciliations, trade rebates, promotional discounts, claims and deductions.
n
Working closely with the Finance, Sales and Operations teams, the successful candidate will also assist with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting and the ongoing improvement of finance processes.
Key responsibilities Accounts Receivable & Credit Control n
n
Process and allocate daily customer receipts, ensuring accurate reconciliation against outstanding invoices.
n
Monitor aged debtors, follow up overdue accounts and resolve outstanding payment issues.
n
Maintain customer master data, payment terms, credit limits and pricing arrangements.
n
Assist with credit applications, credit checks and account approvals.
n
Accounts Payable & Supplier Reconciliations n
n
Process supplier invoices, credit notes and payments accurately and on time.
n
Reconcile supplier statements and investigate outstanding discrepancies.
n
Assist with supplier payment runs and ensure compliance with internal approval processes.
n
Maintain supplier master data and payment information.
n
Review outstanding creditor balances and assist with month-end AP reconciliations.
n
Trade Rebates, Discounts & Reconciliations n
n
Maintain and reconcile customer trading agreements, including volume rebates, growth incentives, promotional discounts and trade spend.
n
Calculate and reconcile monthly rebate accruals against sales activity and contractual agreements.
n
Review and validate customer claims, retailer deductions and promotional allowances.
n
Investigate discrepancies between customer deductions, agreed trading terms and recorded accruals.
n
Work closely with Sales and Finance to ensure trade promotions and rebates are accurately accounted for.

Prepare supporting reconciliations and schedules for month-end reporting.
n
Assist with month-end closing processes, including journals, accruals and prepayments.
n
Prepare and maintain balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations.
n
Assist with bank reconciliations and intercompany transactions.
n
Support financial reporting, audit requirements and general accounting activities.
n
Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve reporting accuracy.
n
Support the Finance team with ad hoc analysis and operational requirements.

About you n
n
Minimum 3 years' experience in an Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable or Assistant Accountant role.
n
Hands-on experience with SAP Business One, highly regarded.
n
Previous experience in a manufacturing, wholesale or FMCG environment.
n
Solid understanding of customer rebates, trade discounts, promotional claims and reconciliations.
n
Sound knowledge of accounting principles and month-end processes.
n
Strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, pivot tables and data reconciliations.
n
High attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
n
Confident communicator with the ability to work across Finance, Sales and Operations.
n
Degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce, completed or nearing completion.
n
Experience dealing with major Australian retailers and distributor trading arrangements will be highly regarded.
n
Exposure to group accounting and intercompany reconciliations is desirable.
