Role
n purpose
n
We
n require an experienced
Broadcom Datacom DBA consultant
to provide
n additional specialist capacity and backup coverage for the existing Datacom
n DBA supporting the Phoenix project.
n
n
The
n primary purpose of the role is to remove the project's dependency on a single
n Datacom DBA resource and ensure that suitably skilled DBA coverage is
n available throughout development, testing and implementation preparation.
n
n
Most
n activities will be performed in
non-production environments
,
n supporting the development and testing teams and maintaining the Datacom
n environments required for Phoenix delivery. This is a hands-on DBA role
n requiring current practical experience administering, building, refreshing,
n diagnosing and tuning Datacom databases.
n
n
Key
n responsibilities
n
· Provide effective backup and capacity support
n for the existing Datacom DBA.
n
· Administer
n and maintain Datacom databases across Phoenix non-production environments.
n
· Build,
n configure, refresh and reset Datacom databases and environments to support development
n and testing.
n
· Diagnose and
n resolve database faults, data-access issues, environmental problems and
n performance concerns.
n
· Support
n developers and testers with database availability, data preparation,
n troubleshooting and technical analysis.
n
· Undertake
n database installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrade and patching




n activities where required.
n
· Monitor and
n tune Datacom databases to maintain appropriate reliability and performance.
n
· Support
n database backup, recovery, restore and integrity-validation activities.
n
· Investigate
n complex issues involving Datacom databases, application access, batch
n processing and non-production environments.
n
· Support
n preparation for test cycles, implementation rehearsals, migration activities
n and production readiness.
n
· Maintain
n appropriate DBA procedures, configuration records and operational
n documentation.
n
· Share
n knowledge and maintain sufficient visibility of database activities to ensure
n continuity when the existing Datacom DBA is unavailable.
n
· Provide
n production support or implementation assistance where specifically required,
n although the primary focus will remain on non-production delivery.
n
n
Mandatory
n experience and capabilities
n
· At least 10 years of substantial hands-on
n experience installing, administering, supporting and tuning Broadcom Datacom
n databases.
n
· Recent and
n active experience working as a Datacom DBA, rather than relying only on




n historical Datacom knowledge.
n
· Demonstrated
n experience building, refreshing, restoring, reconfiguring and maintaining
n Datacom databases and environments.
n
· Strong
n troubleshooting capability, including diagnosis and resolution of database,
n performance, integrity and environmental issues.
n
· Strong
n understanding of Datacom database structures, utilities, operational
n processes, backup and recovery.
n
· Experience
n supporting application development, system testing, integration testing and
n implementation activities.
n
· Experience
n administering Datacom in complex IBM mainframe environments.
n
· Ability to
n work independently and provide credible backup coverage for an experienced
n Datacom DBA.
n
· Strong
n communication and documentation skills, with the ability to work effectively
n with developers, testers, infrastructure specialists and application support
n teams.
n
n
Desirable
n experience
n
· Experience supporting Datacom applications
n within banking, insurance or another highly regulated setting.
n
· Experience
n supporting significant application migration, remediation or database-decommissioning
n initiatives.
n
· Experience
n supporting data extraction, transformation, reconciliation and database
n migration activities.
n
· Familiarity
n with mainframe scheduling, batch processing and performance-monitoring
n toolsets.
