What You’ll Do

As a Workshop Manager you will play an integral role within our workshop.

You will be responsible for all aspects of the workshop, ensuring all vehicles and equipment under your control are maintained to the highest standards and fully compliant with heavy vehicle requirements. You will lead a small team of mechanics and apprentices, while managing workflow, resources and customer expectations.

Heavy vehicle compliance is a key focus of this role. You will own the workshop’s maintenance systems and records, making sure every job is properly diagnosed, repaired to manufacturer specifications, tested, signed off and documented so the fleet is audit‑ready at all times.

Based at our Wagga Wagga depot, this role is the perfect opportunity for someone wanting to take that leap into a leadership position while remaining hands on, or for an experienced leader who wants to get out of the office and spend more time alongside the team on the workshop floor.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Maintain a culture of safety first
- Lead, mentor and support workshop staff, including promptly addressing any concerns as required.
- Managing the daily operations of the workshop to ensure efficient scheduling and productivity.
- Ensuring the fleet is maintained to, and in compliance with, JJ’s Waste Fleet Management Standards and heavy vehicle regulations, with an emphasis on safety.
- Owning the workshop’s maintenance compliance systems, including daily checks, fault reporting and repair, scheduled servicing and accurate maintenance records.
- Ensuring all repairs, particularly safety‑critical work such as brakes and steering, are completed to manufacturer specifications, tested and signed off before vehicles return to service.
- Preparing for and supporting workshop audits and driving corrective actions to close out any findings.
- Manage the service delivery and meet the individual contract requirements
- Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders, including the driving team.

What You’ll Bring

- We’re seeking a genuine, honest and adaptable leader with strong problem‑solving and people management skills. You will be committed to delivering exceptional customer service, working collaboratively and achieving results in a fast‑paced setting while meeting the operational requirements of the role.
- Hold a relevant trade qualification (Truck Mechanic – Heavy Commercial Vehicle)
- Committed to upholding workplace health and safety, quality and customer service outcomes.
- Lead a culture of continuous learning and improvement

- Have good mechanical aptitude and an exceptional eye for detail.
- Previous demonstrated experience in heavy vehicle/truck or diesel industry.
- Strong working knowledge of heavy vehicle compliance and roadworthiness standards (e.g. NHVR requirements, NHVAS Maintenance Management and the National Heavy Vehicle Inspection Manual).
- Experience maintaining workshop documentation, such as job cards, service records and fault registers, and preparing for audits.
- Be dedicated and reliable; we are an essential services industry with our communities counting on us.
- Knowledge of hydraulic operation as well as waste compaction equipment is advantageous.
- HR Licence (preferred, but not essential)

What You’ll Need

- Undertake and satisfy a company pre‑employment medical and drug/alcohol screening
- Current Australian working rights.
- Previous experience is required.

What We Offer

We appreciate there is more to life than work, and so we provide a variety of work options to ensure the job gets done; along with competitive remuneration and a range of benefits, regardless of your role or location including:

- The security of an essential services industry
- Career development and growth opportunities
- Health funds and car related discounts
