Head of Sales & Operations | 18-Month Fixed-Term Contract (Mat Leave Cover)

Melbourne, VIC | Full-Time (4 Days Considered)

$120,000 – $140,000 + Superannuation + Bonus

We're partnering with an established Australian retail and wholesale business to find an exceptional Head of Sales & Operations to join its senior leadership team on an 18-month fixed-term contract, covering parental leave.

This is an opportunity for an experienced leader who understands that strong sales performance and operational excellence go hand in hand.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll take ownership of the functions that connect wholesale strategy, commercial performance, warehousing and logistics. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders to drive sustainable growth, improve operational efficiencies and build stronger alignment across the business.

We're not looking for someone who leads exclusively from behind a spreadsheet. We want someone who understands the numbers, knows how to bring people along for the journey and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves when the situation calls for it.

The Prospect

You’ll play a pivotal role in strengthening the commercial and operational foundations of a growing, fast-paced business.

Your remit will include:

Commercial Strategy & Wholesale Growth

- Partner with the CEO and Sales Director to develop and execute wholesale strategies that deliver sustainable revenue and margin growth.

- Drive wholesale account performance, identify new commercial opportunities and strengthen existing partnerships.

- Oversee sales forecasting, pipeline management, ATS and in-season sales opportunities to maximise commercial performance.

- Translate commercial objectives into clear, measurable actions across the business.

Warehouse, Logistics & Operational Excellence

- Provide senior leadership across warehouse,

logistics and wholesale operations.

- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, fulfilment accuracy, inventory movement and cost efficiency.

- Review freight, transport and logistics arrangements to optimise cost-to-serve without compromising customer experience.

- Partner with external operational specialists to embed meaningful, sustainable improvements.

- Establish clear operational measures, workflows and accountabilities.

People Leadership & Business Improvement

- Lead, coach and develop multidisciplinary teams across Sales, Wholesale, Warehouse and Logistics.

- Create stronger communication, collaboration and accountability between commercial and operational functions.

- Challenge existing processes where improvements can be made, without introducing unnecessary complexity.

- Build capability, establish meaningful KPIs and empower leaders to take ownership of their results.

- Work closely with the CEO and broader leadership team to turn strategy into tangible business outcomes.

About You

You're a confident, commercially capable leader who can see the bigger picture without losing sight of the operational details.

Ideally, you'll bring:

- Proven senior leadership experience across Sales, Wholesale, Operations, Supply Chain or Logistics.

- A strong commercial background within retail, apparel, consumer goods or a comparable fast-paced environment.

- Demonstrated success leading warehouse, logistics or operational improvement initiatives.

- Experience managing wholesale channels, key accounts and commercial partnerships.

- Strong financial acumen, with the ability to translate data into practical decisions and measurable results.

- A track record of identifying cost efficiencies, improving productivity and strengthening business performance.

- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams through change, growth or transformation.

- The confidence to work directly with CEOs, Directors and external commercial partners.

Just as importantly, your leadership style matters.

You're naturally curious, comfortable challenging conventional thinking and able to build trust across every level of an organisation.

You don't need a big title to have a big impact, and you're equally comfortable discussing commercial strategy with the CEO as you are working alongside warehouse leadership to solve an operational challenge.

You bring clarity without bureaucracy, accountability without micromanagement and confidence without ego.

Why Consider This Chance?

- Genuine influence: Report directly to the CEO and contribute to meaningful commercial and operational decisions.

- Broad leadership remit: Take ownership across Sales, Wholesale, Warehouse and Logistics.

- Transformation opportunity: Build on an established operational improvement program and deliver measurable outcomes.

- Flexibility: Full time opportunity with consideration for an experienced candidate seeking a four-day working week.

- Competitive remuneration: $120,000–$140,000 base salary, plus superannuation and bonus, depending on experience.

Confidentiality is assured throughout the recruitment process. Further details about the organisation will be shared with shortlisted candidates.
