SWI Fencing

Job Description
Business Development Manager – NSW / QLD n
Find the right work. Build the right relationships. Bring the right opportunities to SWI. The best projects aren't won when the RFQ lands. They're won much earlier.
n
At SWI Fencing, we're looking for a Business Development Manager to build and grow our project pipeline across Australia.
n
This is a role for someone who knows how to identify opportunities early, understands who really influences a project, and can build the relationships that put SWI in the conversation before the tender hits the inbox.
n
You'll be the front end of SWI's pipeline finding the right projects, qualifying the opportunity, building the relationships and bringing qualified work through to RFQ.
n
What does that actually mean?
n
You won't simply be chasing leads. You'll be asking:
n
Is this actually a project we should pursue?
n
Is it funded?
n
How is it being procured?
n
Who is making the decisions?
n
What does the client actually need?
n
Does it align with what SWI can deliver?
n
And what is our realistic chance of winning it?
n
You’ll identify target projects and market opportunities, assess the procurement pathway, programme and scope, understand the competitive landscape and determine whether an opportunity is strategically aligned with SWI's delivery capability.
n
You'll build relationships before the tender
n
The strongest BDMs don't wait for an opportunity to become public.
n
You'll build and maintain relationships with:
n
n
- Head Contractors
n
- Consultants
n
- Industry contacts
n
- Key project stakeholders
n
n
You’ll position SWI's capability and value proposition, establish relationships early and stay engaged as opportunities develop through the pipeline.
n
Your network matters. But so does your ability to turn that network into real, qualified opportunities.
n
From opportunity to RFQ. When an opportunity gets closer to market, you’ll make sure SWI is ready.
n
You'll:
n
Receive and review RFQs from Head Contractors
n
Engage with all relevant tendering Head Contractors
n
Coordinate mandatory site inspections with the relevant teams
n
Confirm tender timelines and deliverables
n
Identify the key drivers, risks and constraints
n
Hand the opportunity across to Client Relations and Preconstruction with the full picture. Claude BD PDs
n
The handover matters.
n
The Preconstruction team shouldn't have to start from scratch.
n
They should understand why the project matters, what the client wants, who we're dealing with, what the risks are and what could influence the outcome.
n
What we're looking for
n
You’ll likely come from a business development or sales background in fencing, civil, construction or related infrastructure sectors.
n
You'll bring:
n
n
- A strong existing network of Head Contractors, consultants and industry contacts
n
- The ability to identify and qualify opportunities early
n
- Commercial awareness and the ability to understand project drivers
n
- The ability to assess funding, procurement routes and programme
n
- An understanding of who really makes the decision
n
- Confidence representing SWI with senior client-side stakeholders
n
- The ability to build genuine, long-term industry relationships
n
- Strong discipline around CRM and pipeline management.
n
n
We're not looking for a traditional salesperson. We're looking for someone who understands construction and infrastructure.
n
Someone who can have a conversation with a Head Contractor or consultant and quickly understand:
n
What are you building?
n Why are you building it?
n Who is delivering it?
n How will it be procured?
n When is it happening?
n Where does SWI fit?
n
You need to be comfortable operating at the relationship level while still being disciplined enough to keep the pipeline accurate and the opportunities properly qualified.
n
Why SWI?
n
SWI Fencing operates across high-security fencing and infrastructure projects, with opportunities spanning major construction and infrastructure environments.
n
You’ll have the opportunity to influence the pipeline from the very beginning identifying the projects SWI should pursue and building the relationships that can ultimately turn those opportunities into work.
n
You’ll work closely with Client Relations and Preconstruction, ensuring opportunities move smoothly from business development into the tender process.
n
If you already know where the next projects are coming from, we want to talk.
n
If you've got the relationships, understand how major projects get procured, can identify a genuine prospect from a dead end, and know how to get SWI in the room before everyone else, this could be your next move.
