About the role
Hoyne is an independent, award-winning place and property branding agency with studios in Sydney and Melbourne. We work with leading developers, businesses and government organisations to create meaningful brands and places.
We're looking for an experienced, highly organised Bookkeeper to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function and support accurate, timely reporting. You'll work closely with our management team and external accountants to keep our accounts accurate, current and running smoothly. This role suits someone who enjoys owning the detail and working independently. The role is 20 hours per week, with flexibility on days and hours, working from our Sydney CBD studio.
Key responsibilities
- Managing end-to-end payroll, including PAYG withholding, superannuation, payroll tax and workers' compensation reporting across NSW and other states
- Preparing and lodging BAS, including GST reconciliations
- Liaising with external accountants on compliance and year-end requirements
- Managing accounts payable and supplier payments
- Managing receivables, including monitoring outstanding invoices and following up overdue payments
- Reconciling bank accounts, credit cards and employee expenses
- Supporting month-end reporting, including reconciling balance sheet accounts
- Maintaining accurate financial records and improving financial processes
About you
- At least 5 years' experience in a similar bookkeeping role
- Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or higher (preferred)
- Strong proficiency in Xero, including Xero Payroll
- Up-to-date knowledge of Australian payroll, GST, BAS and superannuation requirements, including multi-state payroll tax
- Experience preparing and lodging BAS
- Comfortable across both transactional work and reporting support
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to work independently
- Professionalism, discretion and sound judgement with confidential information
- Experience with Streamtime or similar project management software is a plus, as is a background in a creative agency or professional services firm
This role will suit you if:
- You enjoy being close to the detail and owning the numbers
- You're comfortable doing both bookkeeping and reporting
- You're confident working autonomously and taking responsibility for accuracy
- You like improving processes, not just maintaining them
- You're looking for a stable, flexible part-time role in a creative business
This role may not suit you if:
- You prefer a purely strategic or management accounting role
- You prefer working within a larger, established finance team
- You're looking for fully work from home
Why join us
- Flexible hours and working days
- High-ownership role working directly with senior leaders
- A close-knit, collaborative team in a creative environment
Apply
Please send your CV with a short note outlining:
- Your experience in a hands-on SME finance role
- The size and complexity of the businesses you've supported
- Why this type of role appeals to you
Applicants must have the right to work in Australia.
