Morgan Consulting is delighted to partner with a large and highly regarded organisation as they look to appoint an experienced Category Manager / Senior Category Specialist to join their procurement function.
Operating across a complex and highly diverse stakeholder environment, the organisation manages significant third-party expenditure across a broad portfolio of goods and services.
The incumbent will be tasked with supporting a range of indirect categories, leading complex sourcing, tendering, negotiation and contracting activities.
This is a strategic, commercially focused role suited to an experienced indirect procurement generalist who enjoys variety, working across multiple spend categories and partnering with senior stakeholders to deliver strong commercial outcomes.
About The Role
Reporting to a the Head of Indirect Procurement, you will manage procurement activity across a diverse portfolio of indirect spend, independently leading multiple complex procurement projects from initial market analysis and sourcing strategy through to negotiation, contracting and implementation.
You will work closely with senior leaders and broader internal stakeholders to understand requirements, identify procurement opportunities and deliver sourcing strategies that achieve strong commercial, operational and sustainability outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing procurement activity across a broad range of indirect spend categories
Leading complex end-to-end strategic sourcing and procurement projects
Developing and executing sourcing and category strategies
Conducting market analysis, bench-marking and supplier research
Developing tender documentation and managing competitive sourcing processes
Managing market engagement, tender evaluation and supplier selection




Leading commercial negotiations and contract development
Negotiating contracts, service level agreements and commercial terms
Managing supplier and vendor performance
Identifying cost-saving, value creation and commercial improvement opportunities
Partnering with senior stakeholders to understand current and future procurement requirements
Using spend and procurement data to identify trends and commercial opportunities
Driving continuous improvement across procurement processes and category performance
Supporting sustainable and socially responsible procurement initiatives
Ensuring procurement activities meet appropriate governance, compliance and probity requirements
About You
The successful candidate will bring strong generalist indirect procurement experience, with the ability to work comfortably across multiple spend categories rather than being restricted to one specialist area.
The ideal candidate will have exposure across a broad mix of indirect categories such as professional services, contingent labour, HR, recruitment, marketing, IT and technology, consulting, corporate services, travel, facilities and other business services.
You will be comfortable moving between categories, quickly understanding stakeholder requirements and supplier markets, and developing sourcing strategies that deliver strong commercial outcomes.
Key Capabilities:
Strong generalist indirect procurement experience




Experience working across multiple indirect spend categories
Strong end-to-end strategic sourcing capability
Experience developing and executing sourcing and category strategies
Strong tender development and evaluation experience
Commercial negotiation and contract management capability
Strong supplier and vendor management experience
Ability to quickly understand recent categories and supplier markets
Strong analytical capability across spend, supplier and commercial data
Excellent stakeholder management with the ability to influence at senior levels
Experience identifying savings, efficiencies and broader value opportunities
Strong understanding of procurement governance, probity and commercial risk
Ability to independently manage multiple complex procurement projects
