About the Company

Our client is a family owned specialist in crane hire, rigging and heavy haulage. They hold ISO certification for quality, environment and safety, and use a live HSEQ reporting system to give the business visibility of safety performance.

The Role

HSEQ Advisor, reporting to the HSEQ Executive, who works from the same site and is in regular contact through the day. Most days start on site at a 7am pre start, with a visit or two before you head to the office mid morning. This is a support role, so much of the work is joint walks and building relationships with the project managers, who rely on you most. It suits someone with backbone and conviction, who can speak up, frame a message so it lands and deal openly with unions, without being abrasive.

Key Responsibilities

- Run workplace inspections and depot and project audits, and follow corrective actions through to close out
- Lead incident and near miss investigations, from evidence gathering through to root cause and prevention
- Write and improve SWMS, risk assessments, procedures and checklists
- Deliver toolbox talks, training and safety communications that crews will use
- Take a proactive approach to injury management and return to work, working with workers, managers and treating practitioners
- Maintain the integrated management system, including internal audits and certification activities
- Analyse HSEQ trends and keep across legislative and regulatory change

- Apply working knowledge of enterprise agreements and awards where they touch safety and workforce matters

The Essentials

- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, or equivalent
- Current Victorian driver licence and White Card
- Return to Work Coordinator training (Victoria)
- ICAM Lead Investigator, or equivalent
- At least five years in HSEQ within construction or heavy industry
- Strong, practical SWMS experience
- Sound knowledge of WHS legislation and ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001
- Familiarity with enterprise agreements and awards, ideally in unionised environments
- Strong written and verbal communication, including investigation reports
- Comfortable across both site and office, with flexibility around operational needs
- An appreciation that this is a growing business and some processes are still being refined

The Perks

- Vehicle and fuel provided
- Work on major rail, wind, data centre, road and bridge projects
- Funded development, including crane training valued at $5,000, regulator interaction and industry events
- Join a business that has grown by more than 100 people in the last two years
- A social culture, with monthly BBQs on client sites and regular catered events
