The Company
Our client is a large, established Australian organisation with an extensive national footprint and a complex, evolving technology environment.
Technology plays a critical role in supporting operations across the business, with a strong focus on reliable systems, efficient processes and effective workflow automation.
The organisation has an established Microsoft technology environment, with Nintex currently supporting business process automation. As the business continues to evolve, there is a growing appetite to explore how emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, can improve efficiency, simplify processes and create meaningful business value.
This presents an opportunity to join at an interesting stage of the organisation's technology journey. Rather than simply maintaining existing systems, you'll have the opportunity to influence how automation evolves, identify areas for improvement and help the business understand what's possible with AI.
The environment will suit someone who enjoys combining hands-on technical expertise with broader business engagement and wants to see the direct impact of their work across a large organisation.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Business Systems & Automation Engineer to take ownership of the organisation's existing workflow automation environment while helping drive the next phase of process improvement and AI adoption.
This is a hands-on position offering a balance of business-critical systems support, workflow development, technical problem-solving and opportunities to introduce new capabilities.
Approximately 70% of the role will focus on maintaining, supporting and optimising existing systems and automations. You'll play an important role in ensuring established workflows continue to operate reliably, resolving issues and identifying opportunities to improve performance and efficiency.
The remaining focus will be on looking forward. The business is keen to better understand how AI and emerging automation technologies can be applied in a practical, meaningful way, and you'll have the opportunity to contribute ideas, explore solutions and help turn those opportunities into tangible improvements.
Working within a Microsoft environment, with Nintex currently used for workflow automation, you'll be involved in enhancing existing solutions,
supporting integrations and developing more efficient ways for the business to operate.
Importantly, this isn't a role where you'll be working in isolation. You'll engage directly with senior stakeholders, understand the challenges facing different areas of the organisation and help translate business needs into practical technical solutions.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of existing business systems and workflow automation solutions, ensuring their ongoing reliability and performance.
- Maintaining, troubleshooting and enhancing workflows within the organisation's Nintex and Microsoft workplace.
- Identifying opportunities to streamline processes, eliminate manual tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Supporting the development and implementation of new workflow automation solutions.
- Exploring practical opportunities to leverage AI and emerging technologies across business processes.
- Working closely with senior stakeholders to understand requirements, communicate recommendations and deliver meaningful improvements.
- Supporting systems integrations, technical enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives.
This opportunity will appeal to someone who enjoys being hands-on, values ownership and autonomy, and wants the chance to influence how technology is used across a large organisation.
About You
We're looking for an experienced engineer who combines strong technical capability with commercial awareness, initiative and the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders.
You'll be equally comfortable getting into the detail of an existing workflow, troubleshooting technical issues and having conversations with senior leaders about how technology could improve business operations.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Strong experience supporting, maintaining and improving business systems and workflow automation within a large or complex organisation.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft technologies, ideally including Power Platform,
Power Automate and SharePoint.
- Experience with Nintex or similar enterprise workflow automation platforms.
- A solid understanding of systems integration, APIs and interconnected business applications.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and enhancing existing production systems.
- An interest in AI and emerging technologies, with an understanding of how they can be applied to solve real business problems.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with senior business leaders.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and the confidence to take ownership of technical challenges and improvement opportunities.
Experience with AI-enabled automation, Microsoft Copilot or related technologies would be highly regarded, although we're equally interested in people with strong enterprise automation experience who are keen to develop further in this space.
Above all, we're looking for someone who understands that good technology is about more than the tools themselves. It's about creating reliable, practical solutions that make a genuine difference to how a business operates.
What's On Offer
- Permanent, full-time opportunity with a large, established Australian organisation.
- Help shape the future of AI and automation, with the opportunity to influence how emerging technologies are adopted across the business.
- Genuine technical ownership, taking responsibility for established enterprise systems and workflow automation.
- Hybrid working arrangements, including one day working from home.
- Direct exposure to senior leadership, with the opportunity to influence technology decisions and business improvements.
- An established Microsoft environment with Nintex workflow automation.
- A varied position combining hands-on technical work, systems ownership and continuous improvement.
- The opportunity to work across complex business processes and enterprise systems.
- A role offering autonomy, technical variety and the opportunity to make a visible impact across the organisation.
If you're an experienced Business Systems, Automation or Power Platform Engineer who enjoys taking ownership, solving complex business problems and exploring how technology can make organisations work smarter, we'd welcome your application.
