Civil Pipe Layer

About your new role

Smith & Co is recruiting experienced Civil Pipelayers and Pipe Layer Labourers for projects with established contractors across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and Ipswich.

Projects include subdivisions, road construction and civil infrastructure, with crews installing sewer, stormwater, drainage and water mains. You’ll work with site Supervisors, Leading Hands and Excavator Operators to prepare trenches, install pipe and check grades and alignment.

Hourly rates range from $40–$55 plus penalties, depending on the role, project and experience. Site locations, hours, and duties vary. We’ll explain the details of each chance before putting you forward.

Key responsibilities

- Install sewer, stormwater and water mains to project specifications
- Prepare trenches and bedding for pipe installation
- Set up and use pipe lasers and dumpy levels
- Read plans, drawings, levels and site specifications
- Check grades, levels and alignment during installation
- Assist with pits and drainage structures
- Coordinate with Excavator Operators during trenching and pipe placement




- Follow site safety and quality requirements

Skills & experience we are looking for

- Demonstrated experience as a Civil Pipelayer
- Experience installing sewer, stormwater, drainage or water mains
- Confidence using pipe lasers or dumpy levels
- Ability to read civil plans and check levels and grades
- Current Construction White Card
- Driver’s license and ability to travel to project locations
- Reliable, safety conscious approach to site work

Nice to haves

- Experience across subdivisions, roadworks or major infrastructure
- Pit and pipe or underground drainage experience
- Leading Hand or Foreman experience

About your team

You’ll work alongside Supervisors, Leading Hands, Excavator Operators and civil crews. Team structure and project duties vary between sites.
