Data Team Manager – Sydney (CBD)

Blunomy is looking for an experienced Data Team Manager to lead and develop members of our growing Digital & Data team and help deliver software, data and analytical solutions supporting the energy industry and transition.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who combines strong software/data capability with the ability to lead people and manage complex projects. You will provide technical direction, support Developers and Senior Developers, oversee the delivery and quality of technical work, and create an environment where knowledge is shared and team capability continues to grow. The role also contributes directly to complex client projects, software products and technical studies.

You will work closely with the Engineering Manager to develop and embed project management practices which support the delivery timelines and outputs.

You’ll work across projects involving energy-system planning, modelling, data, digital products and software solutions, collaborating with Blunomy consultants, technical specialists, project leaders and clients.

What you’ll do

- Lead, coach and develop members of the Data & Digital team, setting clear expectations and supporting their professional and technical development.
- Lead the delivery of complex software, data and analytical projects, managing priorities, timelines, risks and resources.
- Provide technical direction and hands-on support across software development, data engineering and digital solutions.
- Maintain high standards for code quality, testing, documentation, security and maintainability.
- Develop team practices that encourage knowledge sharing, continuous learning and transferable technical capability.




- Work with clients and internal stakeholders to translate business and energy-sector challenges into practical technical solutions.
- Contribute to technical methodologies, project proposals and the ongoing development of Blunomy's digital capability.

What we’re looking for You will bring significant experience in software engineering, data engineering, platform engineering or a related technical discipline, together with demonstrated experience leading or mentoring technical people and delivering complex projects.

Strong Python and modern software-development experience are important, together with an understanding of areas such as cloud platforms, APIs, data pipelines, CI/CD, source control, testing and scalable software design. Experience with data analytics, modelling, machine learning or energy-sector applications is highly regarded. You will embrace and lead the appropriate use of AI tools to enhance our software development across the team.

Just as importantly, you’ll be someone who enjoys leading people — providing clarity, coaching others, sharing knowledge and building a collaborative and high-performing technical team.

An interest in energy, climate, sustainability and the role of technology in the energy transition is central to the role.

Employment: Full time, permanent

Working model: Hybrid – 3 days office / 2 days working from home
