Chippendale
Lead the shift. Own the operation. Be part of the show.
Are you a hands-on hospitality professional ready to take the next step in your career? Do you thrive in busy venues, enjoy leading people and love the energy of live music?
The Lansdowne Hotel is looking for an ambitious, proactive and organised Duty Manager to join our leadership team and help deliver outstanding hospitality across our live music venue, food and beverage operations, and accommodation offering.
More than just a pub, The Lansdowne brings together live music, events, food and beverage, and boutique accommodation in one of Sydney's most distinctive hospitality environments. From busy service periods to live shows and special events, there's always something happening.
Reporting directly to the General Manager of Operations, you'll help keep the operation running smoothly, lead from the floor and ensure the details that matter never get missed.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work, follows through on commitments and wants to continue developing their hospitality management career.
About the Role
As Duty Manager, you'll oversee day-to-day venue operations during your shifts, lead frontline teams and support the successful delivery of live music events, food and beverage service, and accommodation operations.
You'll be trusted to take ownership of your responsibilities, make sound decisions within your authority and keep things moving without needing constant direction. You'll also work closely with the wider team to maintain consistent standards across our hospitality and accommodation operations.
You don't need to know everything from day one. We're looking for someone with a solid hospitality foundation, the right attitude and the drive to keep learning.
Key Responsibilities
Venue Operations & Team Leadership
- Lead assigned shifts across bar, floor and food and beverage operations, maintaining a strong presence on the floor.

- Support team onboarding, training, coaching and day-to-day performance.
- Address routine operational issues confidently and escalate significant matters appropriately.
- Follow up on outstanding tasks and ensure responsibilities are completed within agreed timeframes.
Live Music & Events
- Coordinate on-the-ground operations during live music events, gigs, functions and special occasions.
- Help ensure the venue is prepared, organised and ready before doors open.
- Coordinate artist and touring crew arrivals,
backstage requirements and event logistics.

- Work closely with security teams to maintain a safe, compliant and welcoming environment during events and trading periods.
- Respond calmly to changing priorities and operational challenges during busy show nights.
- Complete event handovers and report relevant issues, incidents and follow-up actions.
Food, Beverage & Commercial Operations
- Maintain strong service standards and beverage knowledge across beer, wine, cocktails and other offerings.
- Support stock management, ordering, stocktakes, wastage control and accurate record-keeping.
- Monitor service efficiency and identify opportunities to improve sales, reduce waste and support profitability.
- Support bookings, group reservations, functions and event coordination.
- Encourage responsible upselling and help the team deliver a great customer experience.
Accommodation Support
- Provide operational support to our accommodation team when required, assisting with reception and guest enquiries when operationally necessary.
- Help resolve guest concerns and maintain standards across accommodation areas and shared spaces.
Systems, Compliance & Administration
- Confidently use digital systems, iPads and mobile applications to manage daily operations, bookings, communications and reporting.
- Learn and follow established procedures across our venue management, point-of-sale, rostering and operational platforms.
- Maintain accurate shift reports, incident records, handovers and operational notes.
- Follow NSW liquor licensing requirements, RSA obligations, work health and safety procedures and venue policies.
