East Melbourne Suburbs | Monday–Wednesday | Full-Day Shifts (approximately
10:00am–6:00pm)
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and reliable female Disability Support Worker to provide consistent, person-centred support to a participant living with Huntington’s
Disease in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
This role is ideally suited to a support worker with 3–5 years’ demonstrated experience supporting people with Huntington’s Disease who understands the complex physical,
cognitive, behavioural and communication changes that can occur as the condition progresses.
About the Role The participant’s treating allied health team has recommended continuous full-day support with one consistent support worker, rather than broken shifts or multiple workers attending throughout the day.
Consistency is particularly important for this participant, as multiple support workers within the same day can contribute to confusion and make engagement more challenging.
The anticipated support hours are approximately 10:00am–6:00pm, Monday to Wednesday.
You will provide practical, respectful support while promoting the participant’s independence, dignity, choice and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include
- Providing respectful assistance with personal care and activities of daily living

- Preparing appropriate meals and providing mealtime support

- Ability to recognise changes in a participant’s presentation and escalate concerns
- appropriately
- Strong professional boundaries and communication skills
- High-quality NDIS documentation and progress-note skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with allied health professionals and the broader support team
Behaviour Support The successful applicant will be expected to follow the participant’s Behaviour Support strategies consistently. Relevant training resources and participant-specific guidance will be provided to assist support workers in understanding and implementing the recommended Behaviour Support approaches.
We are looking for someone who understands that behaviours may represent communication, unmet needs, environmental factors or changes associated with Huntington’s Disease,
and who can respond calmly and respectfully rather than taking behaviours personally.
Essential Requirements
Applicants should hold or be able to provide the relevant requirements for working within an
NDIS environment, including:
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current First Aid and CPR
- Relevant disability/community services qualification or equivalent experience
- Current driver’s licence
- Appropriate vehicle/transport capability where required for community access
- Current relevant worker training and competencies
- Ability to complete participant-specific training prior to or during commencement
Why This Role Is Different This is not simply a community access shift.
The participant requires a worker who can provide consistent support across the day, understand the complexities of Huntington’s Disease and develop a predictable and trusting working relationship. The treating team has specifically identified continuity of support as important. We are therefore seeking someone who can make a genuine ongoing commitment to the Monday–Wednesday roster, rather than someone looking primarily for ad-hoc shifts.

Most importantly, we are seeking someone who is calm, dependable, observant and genuinely experienced in Huntington’s Disease, and who understands the importance of consistency, dignity and person-centred support.
